After the end means this game starts at what most people consider to be after the end of a story, the heroes already had their big grand journey and are living in their happy ending when you first boot up the game.

Yeah, the main game doesn't involve the mechanics from this game, but I am heavily leaning towards the idea of re-integrating it as a mini game. Which was what this was designed to be in the first place, played in short bursts instead of the main title, so might as well! Thank you very much for the feedback!

LOL yes I am aware the cup noodles are a hanging nowhere point in this game, it is a plot thing that was brought over from the main game in the works. So I'd take that legit criticism! XD

You are right about this game being made as a small cute thing on the stream. The main game doesn't feature this game's mechanic and it'd be ported in as an arcade mini game if I do. It was the intention to make this a bite sized short and cheesy game, so I designed it based on that goal in mind. Nothing big or grand was planned, I'm glad to read that it gave off the intended feeling! Still, I'm going to go back to add scene pictures to the black text scenes once the voting period is done.

Yeah, the cup noodle is a plot point brought over from the main game, so I understand if it feels hanging over here. Thank you for the feedback!

And as for the memory input game, I don't mind sharing how I did it! It involves scripting, I start by logging an array into a variable consisting of as many unique numbers as I have input directions. Then afterwards, its just a matter of logging a random number from that array into a new variable whenever the round refreshes, repeat for each arrow on the chain. So, that's about it for the mechanics and the rest is just some leg work to add the visual flair.

First off, you will find some nice inclusivity options in this jam game. You can turn off the blinking/pulsing light, footstep sounds, and the intensity of the weather ect whenever you like. This is a good practice to have for the comfort of the players, so kudos!

Upon starting the game, you’ll find yourself introduced to the plot and meet up with other characters right of the bat. Your interactions with your team members are short lived and they will leave you after a battle or two, but they are easy to remember due to their different personalities and way of talking. I beat the game once and went with the refuse the church route, which I find the ending at the end is quite cute with the interactions between the characters in the scene. It makes me suspect that they will be coming back for another game in another world.

The plot could use some more fleshing out as I feel the mystery behind the Blackhearts and the Tree, while it has a nice direction, got solved very quickly or left hanging. But I suspect that’s just a side effect of the time constraints of being a game jam game.

Map design wise, it has nice vibes going for it and I can see what the dev is going for. However, it could use more work and polish as there are some areas that feel big for the sake of being big without adding much new value, one of the few examples being the mansion and outside of the church.

I did like the map dashing mechanic as it gives something fun to do while exploring! Running over monsters to gain stats and items is a fun side mini game.

Overall, this game can use more story expansion and visual polish to push it further but good job!

It is a shame that it's terrible for contests LOL But yes, other than the final boss's skill which made me load my game  to add a stat, the combat is pretty good to the touch.

If we're talking about Quality of Life features tho, adding some identifier for hitting an elemental weakness might help with some less number savy players. I figured the weaknesses from experimentation and seeing a significantly higher number,  but I get that some people don't notice these things.

Yeah,  I expect overlooked issues as a normal part of game jams! I can say certainly nothing broke, I played it three times and had no problems, so you're gold there!

That's great to hear! Visual novels/wordy games are my fav. I liked the characters and wanted to know more about their time together. My favorite parts are when I was reading about the past but certain things were scribbled out cause memory woes. I can imagine the slow burn buildup with more scenes being so nice to read. When you expand on this, I'd love to give it another go!

The cute animations of the sprite as they jump and climb gives that extra spice and I like how the map transitions from each area for this particular game.

Since this is a demo version, it is very light in plot with small interactions that imply a possible bigger game in the future. I did like the small glimpses I got to see of funny characters being around in this setting, such as onions.

Overall combat is currently simple with a basic attack, skill and item option. The unique part is that your dodge is active time based on your input and restores ‘MP’ with each success. It makes the battle more engaging in real time and I like that aspect. I do wish that the success window to dodge is slightly clearer/obvious or larger however as it is admittedly hard to pinpoint even after getting the hang of it. In case of the fireball, there isn’t really an audio or visual sign that hints at you that this is the exact time to jump outside of the movement of the fireball itself, which is easy to make a mistake and jump just slightly too early or slightly too late.

Holy necromancer, where to start at this whole buffet of a game…

First thing that hits me in this game is the absolute solidity of the aesthetics, the music and graphics go together really well! The opening minute had me hooked in with the sound and visuals but the true charm of the game lies undoubtedly in the writing. This game is unapologetically corny and a very good way in my opinion.

I get swooped into that feeling of 100% glee back in the days when I played Final fantasy I on the GBA for the first time. Due to the fun and smart writing, this world feels so big despite being a linear story. Despite starting off at the ‘after the end’ scenario, I personally never felt lost at all being thrown into all of this. It almost feels like entering Game+ mode and being welcomed back into the game despite not having a prior experience with how everything is written.

Not one single character in this game is unlikable and forgettable, including the villans. Everyone has a very colorful personality and you’ll not want to miss any dialog with them. The folks in your village during the first area are absolute bonker madlads and it leaves a strong first impression of a setting that I just adore the vibes of. If you liked that, you’d be in for a pleasant ride as all the NPCs will carry the same amount of whimsical delight when meeting them. Your party members are great and lively, sick of your shit but stick with you found family. It’s great! Also do not mess with grandma... Never mess with grandma.

For a player who loves exploring every section of the map, you’ll be in for a treat. The map design on your journey is straightforward but littered with flavor text and gathering points, and some are just out of reach. You’ll be itching to try and find a way to that entrance stuck on a high ledge, I know I did and it’s rewarding when you find them. The size of areas are just right for the pacing of the plot and never out stays their welcome. Though for those of you who are not used to this early GBA aesthetic, it is possible to go cross eyed a little and miss a few treasure chests in the late game areas.  

Complementing the story is the nice to handle combat and skill system. It is very easy to understand and does not have a confusing flow. It actually gives a good but fair challenge to defeat the monsters as well. While there is some reading to do when you first start, it is drip feed to you one step at a time so it’s not overwhelming, which I like. The team is your standard ‘warrior, mage, healer’ types but why fix a formula that works, they have good synergy with each other on my play.

The skill trees each character has also provides a good amount of thinking to do without overcomplicating things. But you should be cautious when your skill tree is close to the final skill, as your battles will be wasted on a completed skill tree when you could have started on the path of another one. There is also an unsaid requirement for the MC to beat the final boss due to the charm skill she possess, so remember to always save as another file when the game suggests it (you can go back to fix it).

Overall, I am blown away that this was made for a game jam. It’s technically a full game of 3 hrs. I would give this 10 stars if I could. Would replay it again multiple times just because it puts a smile on my face.

This is a semi visual novel type jam game, so while it’s not as wordy as the traditional visual novel experience it will still hit that want for more text compared to usual games!

As a semi visual novel, combat have been added to mix it up. It is a fun surprise to see what monster you get during the Combat nodes, you may even reroll them if you don’t like it for a fee! The first combat node however, would probably benefit from having a predetermined lower level monster. It was hard to gauge the difficulty level of the monsters you encounter on your first play, as they are generated with RNG. There is a chance of going against full danger bars as your first battle and the battles continuing after that rather easily. On my first two plays, I got the max difficulty stone golem as my first and next node monster. And even though I beat them no problem, my understanding of this games’ difficulty rating got skewed. It’s only on my test in the third play that I finally got a 1-2 difficulty monster at the start.

The plot starts out slow, as expected with many amnesia stories. But, you eventually get more backstory revealed to you as you travel the nodes. A nice touch is that the nodes reveal themselves more as you progress so if you don’t want to miss anything, don’t skip out on those nodes!

MC’s old team of girls are quirky, each in their own way once you finally find them. I wish there was more drip feed buildup of info prior to meeting them considering the visual novel tag, but as a rpg for a game jam, it’s enough info to get the main plot across.

P.S Without spoilers, my favorite would be the last girl. She’s very zen, you’ll know when you meet her!

The plot is amusing and hilarious, I didn’t expect it at all and I like it! There are 4 endings and I got the best one on my first play. My favorite plot point was the motivation of the MC to start up a pawn shop. It was a smart choice considering what she was trying to find.

The whack a weed mini game, while simple, is a nice addition when paired with the main polishing mechanic. It’s relaxing to slowly tap away at the weeds after the rapid button spam I did! I also ended up super rich thanks to the farmer’s miraculously regenerating weeds.

The town is small and I wish there was more flavor dialog from the other NPCs, but that is expected for a game jam title. I can certainly see this game expanding into a full relaxation type game that spans across a month with the mystery of the plot revealing itself as you befriend the townsfolk.

This is a fun and cute game, recommend playing it~!

P.S The small smile MC’s sprite does during the credits is the most precious thing ever and I want to protect her (her and her well-toned abs)

Nothing approximate, but I can tell you its planned for the tail end of the year. I have about 3 more packs planned for the other series before Cyber City Interiors. As for pricing, it will have a similar price to the Exterior set.
