Thanks!

I initially selected the supported languages based on the text-to-speech system I was testing during the early stages of development.

The project currently uses Supertonic-3 for text-to-speech, which doesn't seem to officially support Brazilian Portuguese specifically (although it may support European Portuguese).

I should be able to add more languages with the help of the AI that assisted me in developing the game (there's actually an entire system that corrects the text on the fly before it's read aloud by the text-to-speech engine, because even with languages officially supported by Supertonic-3, there are sometimes a few quirks...)

I imagine I could also try using the European Portuguese voice for both European and Brazilian Portuguese. However, I'm not sure how accurate or natural the pronunciation would be...

As a French person, I suspect it might sound a little odd, especially if the difference between Brazilian and European Portuguese is comparable to the difference between Quebec French and the French spoken in Europe...

I'll try to add more languages in the next update (a future v1.0.3), and I'd be more than happy to receive feedback on them, whether it's about the translations or the text-to-speech pronunciation, so I can fix any issues! :)

Hi!

Scacelith is a free and open-source chess simulator. It has everything you need in a chess game:

  • Single-player mode against Stockfish
  • Multiplayer mode (local, online through a direct TCP/IP connection, or through dedicated servers)
  • Analysis of previous games

But it also has:

  • A training mode with challenges, against a coach who explains every bad decision to you
  • A synthesised voice for the coach
  • Translations (10 languages supported, 8 of them with voice synthesis)

The game is vibe-coded, but apart from the logo and icons, every part of it is procedural (generated by code in real time): no assets (no textures, no 3D models and no sound files). Everything is made of C++ and shaders, on a custom engine built on OpenGL 4.6.
