I was thinking of this option eventually but probably not in the first version. I want to have a simple system out and then build on top of it. So I try to keep my scope to the functionally important things so I don't stretch myself too thin from the start.
Thank you for your input! I really appreciate it! 🤗
What do you mean? It works for me. Can you add some screenshots or a screen record? You can also send them on Discord @dangerousdonutgames
Edit: I had some issues loading other developers' browser payables yesterday, too, so it might have been Itchio issue. I would appreciate some feedback if the issue is resolved. :)
Hey, Smileflower! I'm a fellow RenPy template creator and I was looking around to see what others are making. I was thinking about potentially making a gallery template but I really like yours and I was wondering, would you be interested in hosting some co-op bundles with me instead? You can see my current templates in my profile and I plan to add more in the future.
I just finished playing VETO, and wow, what a ride. The atmosphere is genuinely chilling, you can feel the dread of the characters. And also Ellen's frustration trying to deal with her flatmates. The setting is very intriguing — dystopian city, and yet life goes on in the apartment. It creates tension, like asking yourself when would something go horribly wrong.
The horror is subtle in a way that creeps up on you with the psychological aspect of the characters mental states. The visuals do a lot in this regard. I love the style, so unique yet fitting for the story at hand! It's what drew me to the VN and is still my favourite part.
The gameplay is nice. I got a bit frustrated on *that working on the computer* scene. I'm still not sure how I actually progressed there (although I successfully did somehow :D). I liked the card game. Here I was writing down all the cards the flatmate used in attempt to beat him. I don't know if I could influence the outcome of the card game but it was a fun exercise never the less.
Overall, VETO is such a unique experience. It’s got an incredible mix of eerie storytelling, memorable characters, and cool art style. If you’re into psychological horror, give it a shot. It's short but it keeps you engaged.
I'm kinda double texting here 😁 but I just watch the video and it was sooo fun and helpful! Especially watching you rate the game at the end on camera, it gives me better perspectives on what should I be working on.
I had a couple of people getting lost at times about how to continue so I definitely need to make the messages and the navigation arrows more obvious. I was a bit worried about the horror aspect because I couldn't go vey far in the demo and the game is planned as "chill slowly dissolves into madness" vibe so the demo is barely exiting the chill part.
Btw, the scratched off options are not unavailable in the demo, they are just scratched off because you can't go in those routes based on your choices.
Yes, I'm really trying to take my time so I don't butcher the representation of the different mental states the MC could find herself into (the game is brunching so there is more then one direction both for the story and for her well being) while still stay true to the psychological horror theme. It's a hard line to balance because I don't want to misrepresent the trauma for cheep trills but still won't to make the player to feel uneasy and on their toes.
To be fair, RenPy is probably not the best choice but it still has a lot of ways to make it work.
Thank you for your comment!
Hello, I'm a programmer but never before dipped my toes in game dev, so I have some questions:
1, I love the topic and I have an idea for a horror game that I would love to develop further after what I would manage in the two weeks. So is demo an acceptable sublimation? Like if I make the game rougher with one ending and show somehow the alternative routes are going to be accessible in a future release or something like that?
2. I might be stupid but how exactly do we submit? Just create a new project here and post the link in Discord?
Sorry if my questions are stupid but I have never participate in any event like this before.
