This was so refreshing and fun! I loved the noir detective aesthetic, visually got lots of polish to it!
A few things I thought could be worked on you'd like to expand the concept more:
- A restart button so I don't need to refresh it to try again
- When I ran out of time during dialogue, the countdown timer started counting backwards (lol)
- Wish there was a way to make clicking more intuitive, maybe a visual signal that I can click to continue once the text is all displayed.
Overall, great game! Loved it! :)
I love it! Had lots of fun being a scammer. I thought the added mental difficulty of mixing colours was interesting and fun too. The art and music worked so well together~
I think to add some variety you could consider flipping the paintings if you don't want to create too many original pieces. But overall great game!
Love it, thought the story was gold. The art's also pretty amazing in those scenes too, would have loved to see character sprites instead of boxes for the levels though.
I thought overall gameplay was good but some areas of improvement for consideration:
- I thought level 5 was much easier compared to level 4
- Level 4 taught me that there is a death zone if we fall but this fall risk doesn't appear prominently in the later levels so it didn't feel too much like a teaching moment to me.
- Kangaroo in the final stage felt more like an obstacle than boss. Would have loved if the final stage tested your platforming skills by having you dodge/jump/etc. around the Kangaroo instead.
- Scoring mechanic worked well but I didn't feel incentivised to collect the extra white dots, maybe if the white dots unlocked a certain level/cosmetic it'd be pretty neat. Or if the dots served as bullets you can use against the Kangaroo to speed up the level.
Overall, I really enjoyed it! Great game!!
Thought the game was well made with a strong atmosphere. The art, music and gameplay mechanic are quite cohesive.
I wasn't able to figure out the gameplay, am stuck in the second sentence with 4 options. I feel like the phrase placement mirrors how scattered thoughts are quite well but connecting them is less intuitive. For example, sometimes dragging a phrase places it in front vs the back at times. I'm not sure what the blue coloured text is trying to tell me, seems like it signals the end of a thought but not sure why that's helpful. Would help if we got some visual cue on whether thoughts made sense. I like how the thoughts turned yellow in sequence to show completion but each phrase also turns yellow when clicked on, so maybe a different colour tagging could help differentiate it further.
Overall I can tell this game was made with love, enjoyed the short time I had with it!
Loved the art and polish of the little animations. Soundtrack was calming and fitting as well.
I got stuck on level 3 but maybe I'm just bad at puzzle games. It took a little bit of trial and error to understand what I was meant to do. Would have loved if there was a tutorial stage or some hints after several failed attempts (could be as simple as arrows on a sheet of paper that pops up in the corner.
Overall, fun and cute little game!
I had fun! Thought the concept was fitting and straightforward enough. I also liked that the NPCs switched from making a call to pausing at gunpoint.
Some gameplay suggestions if you want to expand on this concept further:
- To hide, could potentially add time to the timer if police are unable to find you for a bit.
- Keeping the handgun doesn't serve much purpose since police can still be called for trespassing, unless the gameplay and store layout is designed to be more espionage style.
Final polish parts if there was more time:
- Start menu text font and spacing can be adjusted. Alignment of text to be on same level to look neater
- Instead of being drawn, death screen could reuse sprites to looks more coherent
I love the animation, it has such a cute hand-drawn charm, can imagine it took ages to make! Music was very fitting as well.
If there was more time it would have been great to see the controls finetuned a bit more. There was a point where I trampolined super high randomly. Would also be nice if there was bigger narrative/goal objective I am trying to save my boy from. Otherwise, I'd happily let him run into hell lol
I love the funky art style and soundtrack! I also really love the touch of slo-mo when launching your followers. Wished there was a little bit of exposition on why I have followers and what my goal is. Thought it fit the theme of countdown but would have also liked a winning mechanic, like if I killed an enemy could I get more followers? It's not very intuitive that my strength has increased.
All in all, fun short game!
