Just updated the pack with 'GBS Expert' versions of the sprites - cut up and adjusted for more optimal sprite tile coverage & unique sprite tile amounts when used in GB Studio ^^

See the difference:

So in my experience making games, sometimes following 8-bit restrictions for style and sometimes on actual retro hardware, I found it near impossible to grab VFX resources - assets online were more 'HD' than I wanted, were huge compared to the kind of resolution I was using, etc...

So I decided to become the resource! Hopefully at least one person around here might find this helpful for a NES-style game or something ^^

https://cursed-offerings.itch.io/burst-vfx

I tried my best to translate the flashy VFX you'd find in Guilty Gear, Marvel Tokon, etc into sprites more suited to the retro aesthetic while maintaining clean silhouettes & shapes:

The moon is a pinned sprite/actor set to display behind BG layers, and the blue-ish-purple sky is the first colour in the palette ^^

Happy to help ^^

If there's anything else I should add, that the pack is currently missing, I'm always open to constructive feedback

...and most importantly, a traffic cone sprite ^^

Hi again,

Getting types of buildings with varying 'upgrade levels' nice and readable as 16px tiles was a fun challenge, though I think the part I'm the most happy with has to be the road tiles. I could've gone simpler (and left more space on the canvas for other things) but I just think they're neat.

As always, everything's 100% Gameboy/GB Studio compatible so these assets can be dropped straight into a real 8-bit project ^^ Have some proof, recorded in MESEN:

This pack comes with:

  • Grass, trees, pavement tiles
  • Road tiles (including destroyed bits)
  • Buildings - e.g. houses, shops, offices, factories, a tennis court, a power plant, warehouses, etc etc...
  • Car & Van sprites
  • Misc sprites - e.g. traffic cone, some UI elements that might be useful, etc...

Hi all ^^

https://cursed-offerings.itch.io/psx-horror-kit

I thought I'd leverage my 3D experience this time (I am a strange man who enjoys making modular kits that snap to the grid) - SWAMP HORROR is basically a bunch of assets that let you make something like what Hunt Showdown would look like if it was made way back in the day.

The asset pack comes with modular kits for rotting wooden buildings, rusty metal supports, worm-eaten wooden docks, etc, plus many loose props to add flavour.

Take a look at the asset page to see some example Unity scenes assembled purely with these pieces:

Hi all ^^

I've just let loose my pack of 8-bit doors - as always, everything's been tested to ensure you could even get these on a real Gameboy or NES, and everything adheres nicely to an 8px grid.

Free sample included ;)

50% sale is over, but that was fun while it lasted ^^ Huge thanks to all the buyers, happing map-making <3

Also, I'd like to put out more tilesets/environments similar in scope to this in the future - so if anyone has any feedback I'd be happy to see and take it onboard

https://cursed-offerings.itch.io/yeehaw

Hey all ^^

I've just published the YEEHAW Tileset as a pay-what-you-want thing, as it's not exactly the most expansive asset ever, and the BG tiles were made in a particular way that may not suit everyone - buuuut it does allow for a bright pinned actor in GB Studio to appear always between the buildings and the sky if configured correctly ;)

Here's some footage, as always captured from a GB Studio projected running in MESEN:

I've just published this sci-fi platformer tileset, and this marks the first wave of pixels I'd planned on making & releasing here, so I figured I'd celebrate with a half-off sale on everything so far.

I wanted to translate Metroid Fusion ish graphics to authentic 8-bit style/limitations, and throw in some flourishes - e.g. animated elevator platform sprite, damage and claw marks in some environment tiles, etc... and I'm happy with how it came out.

See it in action 100% working in a GB Studio project, emulated in MESEN:

Thanks for all your support, it makes it less intimidating to release all this stuff before the critical eyes of the public ^^

Thanks, I appreciate it ^^

I'm nothing exceptional, but thanks. Can't exactly quit my day job, but I've made enough to afford a nice burger or something, so I can't complain ^^

Thanks, glad you think so ^^

Hey again ^^

This marks the first 'block' of content I planned on making and publishing here, so I thought I'd celebrate with a sale.

ABYSS CORE is a concise yet modular tileset that pretty much aims to bring Metroid Fusion sort of graphics across to the land of 8-bit limits/style - whether that's for a "Neo retro" project, or homebrew development (available as indexed in GB Studio's palette colours).

I threw in some sprites to really tie the whole thing together, and tested it all in a gameboy rom:

Just gave this pack a minor update, making all the non-GBS (full colour) sprites available in all of the palettes I've used in the pack ^^

https://cursed-offerings.itch.io/bullet-hell

Hey all ^^

Times are rough in the gamedev industry, so I'm trying my hand at making asset packs designed for, and fully tested in, GB Studio (and sometimes NEXXT for NES stuff).

BULLET HELL is a pack of sprites that translate the vibrant style of CAVE, Raizing, etc arcade shooters to a more low-fi canvas.

We have plenty of assets already on itch for larger sizes, that "HD" look, lots of shading, etc, so I figured I'd try catering to the 8-bit enthusiasts - everything's optimised to not use up too many sprite tiles, everything sticks to GBC palette limits, etc..
