Love to talk to you about it! I've done game jams as both an artist and a programmer (check profile.) My Discord is: "chiral."

I'd love to chat. Are you on Discord? I'm on there as: "chiral."

I'm currently a fair ways into a Game Maker project based on Zelda randomizers. It plays similar to Zelda 1 for NES, with no set path. Visual style is similar to Zelda games on the Gameboy. The goal is to create a head-to-head speedrun game with options similar to typical randomizers. Dungeons are built out of premade rooms featuring combat, traps, and puzzles that center around the dungeon's key item. Random factors are generated from a seed number so multiple players can race the same random world. Knowledge of GM multiplayer is a plus but not needed.

I have a long history of working in GM (since early 2000s) and have completed several game jams including a few first place wins. I have done animation and programming freelance for years, so I'm familiar with working with other devs and working on a timeline. I'm interested in possibly seeking a publisher down the line, but willing to discuss financial options with an active partner.

Check out these simple screen shots for an idea of the visual style. The actual sprites/tiles will be colored and more detailed in the final game. Main character is fully animated in all directions. I also have lots of art for enemies and backgrounds, but I'm not focusing on visuals at this stage. If you are a pixel artist, that's great, but not strictly necessary. I have more than enough art experience to handle that side solo.

If this sounds interesting to you, especially if you are a fan of speedrunning, contact me on Discord:

Dream bigger!

Hi! I'm Chiral, an artist/programmer, developing hobby and freelance projects since the early 2000s. I'm a third generation artist and devoted to the medium of video games. I can create frame-by-frame animations in the traditional way for more dynamic character action. This of course isn't all I do, but its a rare skill among pixel artists who don't tend to redraw their characters each frame.I also have a background doing game jams, including multiple first place entries. This has helped me learn to work fast and format assets properly by habit. I know how to communicate and work with project leaders, programmers and artists in other fields.

very unique weapon controls!

Awesome game with a great gameplay loop!
1305 ;)

Good use of theme. I liked that there were multiple levels and later on you seemed to really understand the level design of your game a lot better. Maybe next time try making the first level last? The controls and the camera were the real enemies though ;)

Very engaging gameplay. Difficult but fair with some very shnazzy, slippery controls. Good use of the theme with friendlies blocking enemies for you. Full 5 stars on fun!

We got 1st place in the OMG jam! Thanks to the organizers and everyone who participated in this jam, there were some really great entries! My favorites (in no particular order):

https://ulone.itch.io/air-raid

Thanks for engaging with it critically, lots of good notes!

Good ol' fashioned space pew pews! The shield is a nice touch but there's so many enemies I can't keep up!

You used the one minute part well, but I think some kind of explosion could have sold the destruction part better. Still makes a good little distraction, and that's what One Minute Jam is all about. This is what it feels like to turn of popup blocker!

We were planning to make the car stop and driver get out when they get stuck. We didn't get to that in time, but we've got a ton of ideas we wish we could have implemented. Thanks for playing!

Oh nice! It was very convincing especially with how quick the attack goes by.

Entire games have been designed around bugs. Lean into it!

Its a cool idea, I just wish i was able to play it without the bugs. The 3 day timeframe was a difficult obstacle. Great work all the same!

The fact that successful strikes put you back into the ready state really helps push the gameplay of this one over the edge for me.  It was also a nice touch making a sprite for each attack direction. Great Graphisms!

Thumpin' backtrack and nifty low-res graphics? Heck yea! I just wish I could last the full 30 seconds :(

A bit buggy but making the ball plow through bricks rather than bouncing off them makes levels a lot more bite-sized.

Having all the obstacles coming from one side is a cool take on the classic Asteroids gameplay. I do feel like the weapon is powerful enough that you never have to actually move, though.

Being able to destroy everything has way more interesting implications that one might thing. Great insight!

This one's a blast! I love the hilarious design of the different weapons!

It was cool to see someone hear the theme "destruction" and not assume "total destruction." Great job!

Games that play with the concept of time are always interesting! Great job!

My first instinct when I picked up the red phone was 911. I wasn't thinking big enough.

The DBZ graphics were implemented really nicely, but I'd like to see the theme engaged with a bit more.

I kept losing because I couldn't resist the urge to just blow up EVERYTHING!

This control scheme deserves to be explored further. Really cool to see you do so much with it in just three days!

EAT THE RICH!

People don't think about how destructive those little furballs can be. Great idea!

Very unique mechanics! Its ideas like this that make me love playing game jam games.

This game is so cool! I just wish I wasn't so bad a video games because I die so fast!

Leave one of the enemies from each group behind by not killing them to maximize your score. When you kill the last enemy of a group there's an audio que to tell you that you're hurting your score. Thanks for playing!

I seeing well established mechanics (RPG rock-paper-scissors) applied to the jam's theme! The ability to see all the enemy types ahead makes the decisions meaningful and fun. I would have liked to see the wizard's stats to help decide what wizard I want in the final fight. The last boss is a beast and its intimidating seeing all that magic fly at your very last character!
