I really like entire group collaborating instead of everyone doing their thing too. I added you on discord. My discord is Caramel4764. We'll talk more there!

I'm completely okay with a bigger team. I kept the original post looking for an artist because I believed it was the bare minimum to create a story game. I actually have some experience with writing although I've never published a book. I've written fanfiction (many see fanfic as informal but it helped me get started) and short stories while self-learning prose and writing tip from free online resources.
My main concern is the size of the project. What's the estimated playtime goal we are going for? Scope is very important to me. You mentioned six month which was a lot longer than I had in mind. Initially, I was thinking a month or two. I'd be willing to talk things out either through message or even discord call. I think I'm pretty shy in person but have been trying to be more confident and meet people. If I know the scope and end goal, I think I'm pretty decent at commiting to a deadline. It does not take me forever to reply. If I'm busy, I usually at least reply that I'm busy so I don't leave other people hanging. Just a heads up, I am a college student so eventually school will roll around. School is very important to me so I will have less time to program during midterm or final week. I think I can still manage fine by programming more around busier time and warn you guys ahead of time.
I don't have much of a requirement either. I just want my collaborators to be happy working on the project. I don't care what artstyle, music, or premise we go with as long as we all like it. For example, you mentioned "psychological" and I'm very excited with that idea. I love eerie and wacky stuff.
Intro
Hello. I'm a beginner programmer looking to collaborate with an artist. I want to make games as a hobby so I've been learning godot recently. I come from a computer science background so I'm picking up godot concepts at a decent pace but there's a lot to learn. I've finished two game jams (only one of which is in godot). I thought it'd be cool to learn dialogue manager in godot by creating a small story game because projects are like the best way to learn. I like visual novels (Freak Circus and Hello, Dear Human are my absolute favorites) and I tend to like eerie/whimical vibes. Creating a story game, however, requires a lot of art and other assets which I cannot get easily. As such, I'm looking for an artist who is patient and willing to figure things out with me to create a short visual novel/story game. I can't afford to pay a wage so I'm hoping to find someone who has always wanted to make a visual novel or story game around their oc but don't have the technical programming knowledge to do so. This should be obvious but I'm programming for free too. I want this to be fun and I want both of us to gain something from this. I get to practice and learn certain programming skills while the artist can practice their art and show their oc in a different medium with player interactivity.
About the project
- Short (Ideally 15-30 minutes playtime and absolutely no longer than an hour).
- Visual novel or story game with ideally some kind of gameplay. I'd like to differentiate from other games with some mechanic maybe but the gameplay can't be too difficult to implement.
- Very fluid and nothing is set in stone. As of now, there's no premise so there's room for the artist to decide on the story, setting, and tone. I want the story to be a collaborative process. Both of us has to like the premise and want to work on it so we should both contribute to the storyline.
Wow. I just played through your game and I loved it! It was very satifying to pick stuff up and moved around. My two biggest suggestion for improvement would be letting players pick up stuff even if there are items on top (which seems difficult to implement so I get why it was left out) and fixing the offset on the mouse. The normal mouse clicks on the top left but your custom game mouse seems to click what I think to be center? It makes picking the small items like books harder but I could zoom in so it wasn't much of a bother. I think the game ran really smooth and I loved the extra details. All the little dialogue when picking certain items up were entertaining and funny. I see a lot of love was put into it. The game art was really cute and cozy-feeling and I especially liked the addition of watering plants. I was surprised to see how varied some of the tasks are. I like seeing the tasks get checked off and it was very satifying. The game got a lot better once I realized I could use the mouse wheel to rotate crooked objects. I don't think that was listed in the controls or at least I didn't see it at a quick glance. I'm amazed you got so much done in such little time! <3 I would post pictures of my decorated rooms but I reached the ending and didn't realize I could not go back to take the photos but thank you for the game!
