Hello everyone!

Today we want to talk to you about the story of Idlewild and its main character!

As usual in game development, the story changed a lot over the past months. What started as one person’s vague idea, now gained its own momentum, reflecting everyone who touched it in some way. It is becoming something truly special.

We believe that in order to create a story that resonates with the players emotionally, you must look into your own soul. Find the things that make you laugh and cry, things that you want to share and generously fill your story with those feelings. It can be hard as the most touching and emotional things are hard to bring up to the surface. Another difficult thing is deciding how intricate you want to make it. You can get easily overwhelmed by the desire to make your story beautiful yet too complicated, losing your vision and straying away from the original idea in the process.

We have decided to go for the story that is relatively simple, a casual daily life, without turning it into a heavy drama or tragedy. Nonetheless we wanted it to be simple but sincere, a story that the players can recognize, understand and relate to.

But simple doesn’t have to mean shallow. The hardships and struggles of ordinary life have meaning and depth, and so do our dreams, hopes, desires and little moments of joy. Most of us don’t live in blockbuster movies or magical fantasy legends, but life still can be an adventure if you let it. This is why it feels important to us to tell a simple tale about the journey of life and the search for connection.

The main character of our story is a girl on the edge of adulthood, no longer a child, but still inexperienced with life and human connection. Through unfortunate yet common circumstances, she has become sheltered and withdrawn.

It doesn't take much for a child. Bullying at school. Lack of family support. Misplaced trust or bad choices. Sometimes just one thing is enough, but when they pile up, it becomes hard to find a reason to ever leave your shelter and reach out. Your own mind becomes a trap, narrowing your vision until you feel stranded on a deserted island, undeserving of being heard or understood, blind to others struggling within arm's reach.

But we are stronger than we think. Kinder and more generous than we allow ourselves to be. It takes courage to take that first step, to open up and extend your hand to someone else. Yet it is in your power to change everything. It is hard, but possible.

Our heroine is about to discover this herself – with your help. We hope to create an engaging, responsive story with varied dialogue choices and reactions, making her journey relatable for every player.

We want the player to be able to name the main character when starting a new game, to better connect to her on a personal level. Internally during development, we gave her name Iris. We still haven’t decided everything about her background and it is, along with a plot, still a matter of passionate debates amongst the writer's team. But we intend to keep you posted on its development, let us know what you want us to talk about in more detail!

Talking about visuals, her core design is a compilation of our own features and traits, and just like the story, it changed quite a bit in the process. While we kept most of the initial outfit design ideas, we decided to go with less line art and more painting style with a soft color palette. It is incredible to watch our amazing artists work and see how our ideas shape up and become reality with each brush stroke.

We’d happily make Iris more customizable, add hairstyles and let the players choose hair and eye color. It’s on the roadmap, but how much of it we will actually be able to make into the game depends on how much support we can gather and thus on how much work our artists can put into the project. We have a lot of amazing ideas for the visuals, including customization, but the game will be very “art heavy” as is, so we don’t want to promise you anything we cannot deliver.

As a little bonus from our artists, this is our game mascot. Meet Jaba, the catfrog! He was born on a whim, but we grew to love him and decided to make him a part of Idlewild.

Gameplaywise,  we want it to be more than a visual novel. In order to not mislead people, we would like to mention again that there will be gameplay. Character progression, relationship system, unlockable progress, hangouts and activities, and also some simplified RPG elements. We want to make a game that you can play, not just a novel to read. We will also make a post explaining the gameplay down the line, so expect news soon!

Thank you for reading this post! We hope to see you back here for the next one. Next time we will introduce you to some technical features of the development process and show bits of UI. We’ll also talk more about the plot in upcoming posts, without going into too much detail to avoid spoiling the player experience.

Please consider supporting us on Patreon if you want to see this game go all the way to release! You can find us by the name Team Bunny Basket.

Thank you and see you soon!

Hello everyone!

We are Team Bunny Basket, people brought together by passion and the shared desire to make games for a living. Our dream is to make interesting and ambitious games, ones that we will have fun developing and people will enjoy playing. We have gathered around this dream like a cozy bonfire, and we are ready to put our very hearts into it to make it burn ever brighter and to hopefully share its warmth with you.

We are starting with a small project that is nonetheless very meaningful to us, because it’s the first stepping stone on our journey, the one that brings us closer together as a team.

We want to put so many things into our little project! We want it to be deep, interesting, big and complex. But we have to remind ourselves that for now it is just a tiny ember born from a dream, and it is too easy to extinguish its flame with too many aspirations. We can only go so far on our own, but with your support, we can make it into something truly wonderful!

We are very excited to introduce you to

It is a game that uses visual novel-style storytelling while also incorporating simple RPG elements and progression.

It is a story of a young girl whose previous unpleasant experiences with people made her withdraw into her own world, wary of connections and afraid of reaching out. But a kind and compassionate heart can’t stay isolated forever, and though it takes a lot of courage to take those first steps, she may yet find a way out of her solitude and meet people who care for her, real friends and maybe even true love.

In Idlewild you will dive into her daily life of an ordinary university student and a huge game nerd. You will attend classes, build connections, make friends and also play a recently released fantasy MMO game.

As you know, online games have the ability to provide safe shelter and respite from the “real world”. Our avatar becomes the perfect mask to hide behind, letting us try on different roles, giving us courage to open up and speak our mind. Often, it seems better than our “real” self, this shiny hero with blazing wings and incredible powers, always ready, always capable, always swooping in to save the day.

But do you also know that we could become someone’s hero just by being around when they need it most?

In the end, will our protagonist choose to stay behind her mask or step into her own strength? And what even is her real self? You decide.

We have been working on this project for several months now and are very eager to share some of the work with you!

In the upcoming posts we will introduce you to some characters, show their design, talk about gameplay systems that we came up with, and of course discuss our plans and hopes for this project. Soon – fingers crossed – we’ll be able to provide a small demo to showcase some essential gameplay and give you an idea about what it feels like to play the game.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could support us on Patreon or spread the word about our game. We are a small excited bunch of enthusiasts and every comment or mention helps us immensely!

Thank you and see you soon!

Hello! I am a beginner game designer looking for people to share my dream with. I was learning how to make games for a while now and finally got enough confidence in myself to try and make something relatively big. I am very serious about this, as I am trying to turn around my life and fully determine myself to game development. It is not going to be easy, but I am passionate and full of hope and ambition. I want to make all kinds of games and have been noting concepts and plot ideas for years now, I have solid detailed ideas for about 4 games that I want to make, that is more than enough for decade of work.

Though it is not impossible to do alone, I want to find people who are of the same mind. I want to build something that will last and prosper. I can’t pay you anything right now, but I want this to become something that can sustain our lives, all profits shared and, hopefully, we will grow in small studio. So if you want to be part of it, you are very much welcome! What I need is passionate people who want to make games and ready to learn and move forward with me. I want to create an environment where you can try yourself at something you always dreamed of doing, learn and grow, so it doesn’t matter if right now you feel like you don’t have the skills or lacking knowledge, we will get there together. We all have to start somewhere, what’s important is if you really want to make games and take it serious. We sure can have a lot of fun with our work at the same time, but we need to see it through.
To begin with, I have a project idea that should be not very complicated to bring to life and should not take a ridiculous amount of time to do it and it will serve as a first stepping stone. It is an interactive visual novel, meant to be made in unity, so it can be implemented with mini games, character progression and other elements that players can engage. It will be focused on relationships  as well as telling little stories of different people. It suppose to have some active gameplay, simple rpg system and such.

For this project I will need people who can help with writing, making music and sounds and unity developing. As it will be based on a VN, we will need a lot of art, such as backgrounds, characters, various items and more, but I am very lucky to have two artists for the project already, so we started concepting, but we can always use more hands to speed up things for sure. What I really need right now is a co-writer, who likes to write with a bit of humor and can work closely with me on story ideas and character dialogue. It is all quite ready and assembled in notes, we have a solid idea and plot, characters and stories outlined, but English is not my first language and I need someone who can help to make the script more alive and fluid, and of course there is always room for more ideas.
I will be a bit of an all-rounder, probably doing most of the script and code writing, I feel confident with unity in terms of what I want to do with this particular project. But, as I said, I will greatly appreciate and warmly welcome everyone. I will make you busy, no worries.

If you are interested, please join our discord server (https://discord.gg/r96N76Ma) and write to me directly for participation, I will explain to you game outline and we will discuss how we can work together. I also want to say that our discord will be opened for anyone who wants to come say hi, discuss the project, give us opinions and just keep track on how things with development going. As soon as we will build a demo I will start a devlog here too.
Thank you for coming by to read this!

UPD.
I am here to update :) It's been a few days now and a lot of amazing people had joined and offered help with the project, that made me incredibly happy and solidified my confidence in this endeavor. I wanted to update this post and tell that we are doing well, now on your team we have two writers, programmer and even music producer! We could still use help with art, but now we can move forward, I hope we can start devlog soon, and our server still opened for anyone who wants to help or just keep in touch. Thank you all so much!
