Thanks. I’ll try this version over the weekend.

Yeah, I think your concern is valid — I still haven't managed to get past wave 3 😅
Things start moving really fast and I quickly get to the point where I just can't keep up with everything. So I can definitely imagine some players never reaching the later waves, which would be a shame because the bosses, rain, fog and Viking ships sound really cool!
Hi. I played the game and really liked its pace and overall feel. It’s genuinely fun to play. From my perspective, there are a few things that could be improved:
- The game felt quite difficult to me. By the third level, it already becomes very challenging. Game balance may seem simple, but it’s actually hard to get right. I think the difficulty should be adjusted so that even a 10-year-old could get through at least the first five levels without too much trouble.
- I feel like the game needs a tutorial explaining how to place the Monks effectively. It could be something very simple — basically a small illustrated guide with pictures and short explanations.
- The game’s UX. This is just my personal opinion, but it feels a bit strange to have some Monks in the top-left corner and others in the top-right. I would put all the available options together, for example in the top-left corner, and move the Faith meter slightly to the right. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it being off-center.
Good luck with the continued development of the game!
Hey everyone!

MonoTanks is out. It is a fast, arcade tank shooter for Playdate, a 1-bit tribute to the NES Battle City, and this is the full release.
What is in it:
- 100 hand-built missions across five worlds, each world with its own tileset
- BATTLE mode, the endless run: one pool of lives, one score that keeps climbing, three difficulties, and a top 10 leaderboard for each one
- A tank you upgrade. Radar, bullets, speed and tank tier, paid for with chevrons you earn level by level
- Walls that break for real. Brick chips away hit by hit and leaves rubble behind for the rest of the mission
- A radar you charge with the crank to reveal enemies and bonuses on the map
- 30 achievements, exported to the Playdate Achievements standard so they show up in Trophy Case
You do not need a Playdate to try it. The free edition runs in the browser right on the page: desktop with keyboard or a gamepad, phones and tablets with on-screen controls. 40 missions plus BATTLE mode, nothing to install, and your progress saves in the browser.
Free version: 40 missions, browser or sideload to a Playdate. Full version: 100 missions, Playdate.

I would really like to hear what you think, and bug reports are very welcome, especially from the browser build on a phone. That part is new and I want to know where it falls apart.

Hey everyone!
MonoTanks is my tank shooter for the Playdate — a 1-bit take on the old NES Battle City. Defend your base, break through walls and upgrade your tank.

Biggest thing I'm proud of: you can't just shoot walls and they disappear. They chip away hit by hit, and leave rubble that remains on the ground for the rest of the mission. After a long battle you can look at the board and see what was played in it.
In free version, 40 missions are available. A full version with 100 levels and a BATTLE mode is in the works.

Also I've been thinking a lot more about releasing a PC version on Steam lately.
It would be the same visual style, the same pixels, the same shapes, the same chunky look, but with colour added.
Do you think a game like this, with a visual style like this, would find an audience on Steam?
