It's going to be a lot better :)

Here's a work in progress sneak peak

Hi there,

I wanted to share this recently posted dev blog of my small horror game Linger: https://bioxide.itch.io/linger

I built this game in a few days for an Epic Games game jam and it surprisingly blew up, reaching #1 on itch.io for a few weeks last summer, since then it has been gradually growing, and still lots of videos are being posted on Youtube weekly.  I've been receiving emails non-stop, people asking me what's next, to collab with them because they got great ideas, etc, one of the recurring themes in those emails was adding a multiplayer mode to the game. I gave it some thought and took some time to develop a small prototype to see if the idea would be feasible and I wanted to share it here to see if it's something people would be interested in.

I will keep the details to a minimum, the game would be something similar to phasmophobia (no ghost hunting), and heavily inspired by Silent Hill and old school horror games,  it's a co-op mind-bending, psychological horror game set in a sandbox/procedural environment, procedurally generated objectives, randomized scares, individual sanity system, and other crazy fun things I won't mention for now. It's built-in Unreal Engine 4 with high fidelity graphics and a surgically crafted network system to ensure all users get a smooth multiplayer experience with the least amount of jankyness possible.

Right now it's just a small prototype built off the Linger project, but it already includes 4 player co-op multiplayer, health/sanity, dynamic inventory system, high-quality animation, and locomotion systems, third/first-person modes, and the interaction system from Linger but overhauled.

The most important question here would be, is this something you guys would be interested in? Would you like to experience what made Linger so scary and fun but in a multiplayer environment with your friends?

I'm a full-time senior/lead UE4 game developer plus I have a personal MMO game that has a huge community and currently in pre-alpha, so my time is very limited and I need to know if investing my time into this project would be something ideal, I wouldn't want to create a fully-fledged commercial horror game that no one will play.

If this is something you might be interested in or think it has potential, let me know, I'm curious to see what others think, thanks!

right click for flashlight :)

Nope, it's the same version from 2016, hasn't been touched since then.

Yeah what a shame, really wanted to keep working on this :(

Yeah it's cool, game is quite buggy, never got to fixing it due to being forcefully cancelled :(

You have a flashlight with right click, read description :P.

Thanks! This was just a small venture I did to take a break from my main project, which is a cyberpunk MMO.

I'll likely comeback to this and build a proper version, or make another small horror game in a few months :D.

No worries, just wanted to clear some stuff up, not coming from an aggressive stance as well, I do appreciate the feedback and also for playing the game :D

Yeah the itch.io version has broken TV screens and the ghost girl has wonky collisions :(

Its meant to be a slow creeping horror game where instead of jumping out of your seat, it just keeps you in the tension of a jump scare waiting to happen, you also played the bugged version in itch.io, should've read the description and downloaded the one from gamejolt which fixes the white TVs and other misc issues.

The game was done in 3 to 4 days as well, which means a lot of content was cut out in order to meet the gamejam deadline.

Thanks for playing! This game was made in 3-4 days for a gamejam so a lot of content had to be cut off in order to be able to complete it in time. I do agree with the longer haunting portion and the story part, I rushed through those to make sure the game had a start and a beginning that could be completed in less than an hour :P.

Thanks for playing, enjoyed the video :D

Thanks!

There's a lot of submissions and it seems the discovery algorithm is not playing nicely with this :(

Thanks for playing!

There's a slight learning curve with the movement and grappling hook as the game is intended to be challenging, think of the hook as pathfinder's (Apex Legends) grapple ability with barely any cooldown, you gotta be creative in exploiting the physics to move around efficiently :)
