Hey guys, my name is Ken. I am a professional artist working in the game industry, but I would like to work on a small to medium-size project on the side, and actually finish it! There are no strict deadlines, and you don't need to be an expert level coder, but some "completed" project experience would be nice, and above all, just be reliable and consistent with communication (no MIA for weeks please!). I handle all of my sprite work in GMS2, but am fine with whatever pre-existing engine you'd prefer to use :)

The game is called Bullets and Brains. It's a zombie game (another one :D). I was thinking the direction of the game could be something reminiscent of Resident Evil 4, just on a much smaller scale in terms of overall play time. A few map locations, some bosses, but lots and lots of zombiieeesszzz! I even have an idea for shade like monsters instead of zombies that we could consider to make the game feel a bit more unique? I'm open to discuss overall direction of the game though, just as long as it has that post apocalyptic survival feel to it!

Some features I anticipate will be in the game (previous experience with any of these would be greatly helpful!)

- Fully functional and non buggy top down player movement with layer/collision detection.
- Unique melee and ranged weapons the player can find and use.
- A basic weapon/item slot inventory into somewhat fixed positions on a player HUD, no advanced item manipulation required.
- Weapon/Item cycling through the basic inventory, something similar to Castle Crashers.
- Day/Night cycle.
- Room and overall map transitions for navigating from the map and in/out of houses.
- Item manager system for storing/managing distribution of items and weapons throughout the game (via drops, crates, etc)
- A persistent save system. If you die once, the game is over, but it would be nice to save your overall progress if possible.
- Vehicle physics (maybe). Driving vehicles would be fun, but I'm not sure if the smaller scale of the game would require it.
- Player HUD with health, hunger, and thirst bar, as well as weapon slots and a small map display for player location.
- Basic chat functions and character portraits with NPCs. Just to help tell the lore of the game throughout.
- 2 to 4 player Co-op (MAYBE): I think it would be great, just depends on the amount of work required.

Features that will NOT be in the game:

Procedural Generation: Waaay too much work for the scale of this game.
Online networking
Open world: Because of the size and low resolution, I will create all of the maps by hand.
In App Purchases: It's just going to be a one and done payment of a few dollars, like the good old days.

I look forward to meeting anyone interested! Thanks for your time :)

I have a good amount of assets made already to get us started, but here are a few screenshots to show off the overall look of the game:

Bump: Previous programmers fell through :/

Hello developers! My name is Ken. I am currently looking for a programmer or more to work on a pixel art fantasy style battle game. Project would be rev share. Looking to produce a working demo for crowd funding. I do have extensive experience with pixel art, as well as working for large game studios previously as an Art Director. The game is called Dark Age Stadium. Players start with a basic character class, and can upgrade their class along the way as they fight through hordes of other players, monsters, construct bases, team with friends, and conquer the map, which would be procedurally generated. Other features include mounts, farming, resource collection, weapon drops, NPCs, and other fun things! The map would also wipe every week or 2 weeks, similar to the game Rust, and would consist of a small network of players (around 20+) if possible. The art is very low res, so it won’t be a big strain on performance or time to create assets,  but is still aesthetically pleasing enough to get traction.

I do have a full starting document detailing most of the core gameplay and what is available in terms of features, if you are interested in reading it. I also work full time as an artist, so this would be a slow burn in terms of development (no stress!).

Here is a screen shot mock-up for the game so far, as well as playable characters (visuals subject to change):

If you are interested, I am very active on Discord at Kenthecaptain#3206. As far as engine choice, it’s up to you and the other developers. I do have a lot of experience using GMS2 and some Unity, if that is of any help. Hope to hear from you soon. :)

Thank you so much :)

Hey I’m Ken. I’ve done a few small jams before with friends, but nothing big. If you are looking for an artist to work on a jam with let me know.

Thanks :)

That’s pretty cool! I’m not sure what that is, but I’m glad you are able to use them. :)

Yeah I’d love to see your prototypes, I just sent you a request on Discord.

Thank you! Yes, fish weapons are pretty awesome. :)

Awesome game name! Let  me know if you guys still need an artist! I like hand drawn mostly, but can do pixel art too. I’m not sure what you have of the game so far, but if you are interested, I could draw up some concepts for you. Here is my art account:

Hello guys, I am a concept/game artist, specializing in  hand drawn or pixel 2d toon style art, looking to work on a small game project. I may be interested in larger projects down the line, but right now I’d like to keep a fairly small scope. I enjoy fantasy games mostly, but I can broaden my horizons depending on the project. I would love to work on a small top down  or platformer adventure type game, but my coding skills are just not up to snuff. Check out my Instagram account instagram.com/kenthecaptain, and let me know if you are interested.  I do have a few small mockups/concepts that I did recently that are collecting dust, and I have included them below! If you like my work, don’t hesitate to send a message. Thanks!

Hello Nick,

Your game concept sounds interesting! I mainly specialize in 2d character design, but I can broaden my horizons depending on the project. Take a look at my Instagram account, if you are interested, please send me a message there, and I’d be glad to discuss it further with you. Take care. :)
