From a writing perspective (I do a fair amount of tech writing), the amount of asterisks in the dialogue are distracting with the font used. Playing off the joke would indeed lean in well with the early-game sarcasm that Rook displays and might give the game some additional character.

Abusing this post to not create too many different threads for the same thing.

Loved the aesthetics of the game overal, from the audio design so far to the overal graphics, including the corruption on-screen when you're still recovering. I knew that from the campaign a bit, of course, but to actually be in there is another thing.

The RPG mechanics seem interesting and, like mentioned above, I wonder how this will affect the journey.

To me the intro sequence didn't take too long, but I generally like these forms of intro exposition. It gave a good sci-fi/cyberpunk kind of feel.

Other thoughts will come, need to play through it a few more times to properly gather my impressions.

I got the hang of the melee system fairly quickly. But despite playing a lot of games the timing seems awfully tight. If I have, at times, difficulty reacting in time, I wonder about other people or who due to disability have problems to react quickly. It will be a very frustrating experience for them, whereas the rest of the game might very much delight them.

What confuses me at the moment is ranged combat against me. I see a red/orange/green bar with a slider and I am still unsure if I am supposed to press something in return or if that's the enemy using the ranged combat bar.

I think I ran into this as well. Was at the ladder, had about 4-6 HP, didn't see the fire prompt at the bottom, thought I had to jump, fell down, lost all but 1 blip of my HP. Jumped down on the right side on purpose and fell to my death. Respawned at the save point and had all my health.
