Awesome job on this! I can tell you had a lot of fun composing both versions. Feels like a pokemon battle theme but there are some VERY interesting switch-ups and breakdowns I didn't expect at all. I listened to the 1996 first and then the 2026 and it was cool hearing the difference since you can appreciate different aspects of the sound from both eras. Impressive project!

The song is really interesting and I enjoyed all the sounds you chose for it! Given the short time frame I think it still has a lot to it with lots of moving parts and countermelodies so nice job. On the other hand it's a little hard for me to picture where this would be in a pokemon game, maybe because of the sound fonts from other games. Listening a little more it felt almost like a theme for a cave section where you're solving puzzles. Overall though I really liked it and to echo some of the other comments the theme is calming and meditative.
Very nice song, it sounds right out of the original Gameboy games! The melody is really catchy and I loved the progression of the whole track. My only criticism is that the lead seems to have a vibrato effect the whole time which was a little distracting, but that may just be nit picking. The mix is great though and sounds full for having limited channels so nice job!
Listening back I think you're right, the horn could be turned up a bit in the chorus sections. I was trying to fine-tune the levels in mono but I think the horn just may also need some EQ adjustments. Also yeah I ended up finding out later that Roland samples were used for the GBA games so that was a happy accident/coincidence! Thanks and appreciate the feedback on this!
Really well done song, there are a lot of moving parts and contrasting sections but I think your transitions are excellent between them. This track is really exciting- the intro tempo change and later the key change at 1:03 makes it so hype. You demonstrated some amazing musical ideas and I feel like this is a crazy impressive track.
Great battle theme here! I think it could use a drum part to fill in some of the empty spaces but it's completely believable for a GBA track otherwise. It's pretty crazy how amazing the Musescore sounds fit. There are some really impressive musical ideas here too, one that stood out to me was the progression at 0:23, really hype and dramatic! Very nice stuff
This is a solid pokemon track! There are a lot of cool sounds in here but to agree with some of the other comments there may be too many trying to compete with eachother in the mix. The phaser synth bass part is a little overwhelming in my opinion. Later in the song at 1:10 you can feel the mix open up without it and there's a lot more space for the other instruments to breathe. One other thing that stuck out was a higher synth part that comes in around 0:45 which is in tune at first but around 0:49 it starts to become dissonant. I really liked the structure of the song though and the melody was pleasant to listen to, so nice job!
Nice interpretation of a winter route theme. The mix is simple and sounds pleasant but maybe could use a contrasting section in the song, or a section with a few more layers of instruments added on to give it some variety. One other thing that stuck out to me is the resolution of some of the chords. The arpeggio at 0:22 would be a great turnaround to go back to your root note, and same with the one starting at 0:40 but instead the chord progression continued so it felt a little dissatisfying to listen to. I think you have a solid foundation for a track here though, but just needs some more structure work. Overall the style is still very fitting and nice job!
I think you have a good concept here, and it's clear what your intention is for the song's feel with the drum part. It's hard to tell what key the song is in, though. At 0:07 there's a low note there that I think would be fitting for your root note to repeat and work around, if that makes sense. The part from 0:06-0:12 is solid but if you leave that low note by itself as the bass and bring the other notes to a higher octave that dissonance could work better. Then just repeat that phrase a few times and you have a solid song. I like the ambience you are going for though, and definitely keep at writing!
It sounds a little sparse now but I think it could be built up into something cool. The intro feels like it could lead into a fast battle theme. Something you could try is putting the spooky synth on one track and the fast arpeggios on another track at a lower volume and see if they fit together, and maybe put a fast drum track under it. Repeat the section a few times and there could even be a break in the song where it's just the creepy synth part by itself. Definitely keep at writing music because it seems like you have some interesting ideas, just maybe needing some structure.
Really impressive stuff here. The starter town part's soundfonts are spot-on, especially the accordions which actually reminded me a lot of Gen 4. Also I have to say the key changes and modulations you used in both parts are great. The mix for both parts is excellent in my opinion and the battle mix has lots of space which I think was a good choice. It all feels very fitting, really nice job.
I like the chords and the melody here a lot, and I feel for this kind of chiptune the drums are driving and well done. I did notice that the bass seems to be pulling everything in a different direction, though. With the intro it felt like the song was going to be in a minor key which might be a little more fitting for a tense gym battle. The melody and chords on top of the ostinato seem to be in a major key and sound happy while the bass is trying to be minor and tense, so it's hard to pin down what your intention was. Keeping the ostinato the same can be effective but I would try to nail down what key you want to be in and you can find chords that would fit the bass part without it being too crunchy.
There is some really interesting stuff here musically, the time and key signatures are very ambiguous, maybe fitting for a Sinnoh game? And the tempo change is cool and unique. I feel like a melody could go on top of all the rhythmic parts to tie it all together though, and maybe give the listener more of a "hook" to hold on to, along with maybe more repeated sections. Overall though, it's an impressive and intricate track
I like the melody of this track a lot, it's very catchy and the chromatic walks are cool! The bass and lower mid frequencies are a little crowded, though. One good rule to follow is limiting chords in the bass or not having any chords down there at all. 5th (power) chords are fine in the bass but when there is a full triad in the bass it makes it less clear. Maybe the repeated quarter-note chords could also be bumped up an octave to leave more space for the bass? Good stuff overall though, it's a nice fun concept!
