Just my skill issue then haha

(1 edit)

A game I've played recently that l sucked at, but looked good was this:

https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3849917

I'm sure the creator would appreciate a rating and comment :)

Admittedly, it was our first game and it was a bit rushed haha, we will have to find clearer ways of communicating our ideas. Thanks for your perspective on this :D

Thanks for reviewing :D. Yeah, it's clear from a few comments now the timer should have stopped while in the shop haha. A progress indicator would have been great, l think a lot of people didn't finish the game because they didn't know how long they had left. There are so many fun games with this jam, makes me want to do another :D

You make some good points. One thing I’d add is a weighted category system, because surely enjoyment should matter more than anything else. Honestly, I’d probably change the whole system, but a weighted approach would already be a big improvement.

Another idea for supporting downloadable games could be if Itch added a way to stream them directly on the platform. I know that’s a huge ask, but it would be incredible. And if Itch never does it, maybe they'll be replaced by a platform that will.

I don't seem to be able to get past the second opponent. I just kept drawing every time. I'll have try it again, perhaps it was just unlucky

Nice job making all the assets! The combat felt good, especially slicing em up! I do see this as a potential full steam game, but l will let you know this game was noticeably slow on my pc, optimization issues are of course acceptable for a game made within a week, but just thought I'd mention it if you plan to go further with this. Love the soulslike mechanic :P

Woah! I spawn in, I'm a king with the most loyal mate around, everything is great, then l get ambushed by possibly the hardest enemies I've ever dealt with, haha. The game was cool and the effort put in is recognised, but damn you need to chill on the difficulty or l need to get better at games. I saw a comment about the betting idea, sounds cool :D

Yes, now you need to do it in real life, haha. Thanks for the review :D

I really like the idea of this game. I can't tell if I'm just bad at it or it is too balanced because about 15 rounds in and l keep drawing every time. To prevent that, maybe add some cards that are more chaotic, or a random buff/debuff is given each round. Could just be me or just an unlucky run, but I'm just spitballing some ideas haha. The sounds are nice, especially that dice shake. The art is great and it's brilliant for the theme. Personally, l'd speed the game up or have an option, but for the time constraint it is a great entry to the jam. Nice one :D

The sticker dragging is a great extension to other bland claw machine games I've seen on the mobile platform, an idea with great potential. It's harder for me to comment because l wouldn't say I'm the target audience for this game, but l believe it would do very well with mobile players if you can make the controls suitable. The boyfriend theme is great for the gam jam, but I'd consider having many themes, it could open you up to a huge market. I don't think this has a strong grip on the theme, but the game itself is good. With the mechanic you have for the claw, it can only really be too easy or too hard, so perhaps some physics on the claw arm would make it more challenging, in a fun way. Good job!

Really appreciate that :)

It is a shame, but the nature of how safe and convenient browser games are will always make them preferred. For those who are scared of malicious activity from downloads, I'd strongly recommend using Windows Sandbox (free and easy). Simply hit the windows key, type in "add windows features" and find windows sandbox, restart your pc and then you can search and open the windows sandbox like any other app. Once opened, download and browse within the sandbox app and any potentially infected files are removed when the sandbox is closed. It's what l use when downloading files from here. Mac and Linux may have their own sandboxes built in, but if not you can download a free sandbox program or virtual machine like VMware. This is my first game jam so I'm not familiar with jams in general, but I'd assume going to a less beginner jam would get you more downloads. I'll check out your game and rate it when I'm back at my pc.

Thanks a lot :D

I love how serious the dog's face looks, but then he has silly paws haha :D. The art and animations are polished. Sounds fitting. The use of line of sight and noise makes this much better than if just one was used. Risking it all is an obvious great fit for the theme, even if it annihilated my run. Easily a replayable mobile game with more art themes and unlockables. Good job!

Those customers are mad for that hot sauce! This was fun and would benefit from more ingredients, but fair given the time constraint. Music was fitting as others have said. Nice one!

The perfect biscuit was devoured! This game was chill, music reinforces this well. A good entry for the game jam, but if you intend to expand on this, l would consider being able to drag the biscuit down maybe, or pressing to eat a part of the biscuit, anything to connect you more with the feel. I liked your artwork too :D. Could be a nice mobile game if given some sort of levels, even if that is just a sequence of biscuits mixed. Nice one

All those tiny details really add up. The level design is very nice, was that inspired by somewhere or did you wing it. Somehow you've got the simple characters shaped enough to really brand the game. You've got a strong theme fit. I request extra chaos though haha :D

I don't have anything new to say that hasn't been mentioned, but I'd agree the maps can easily be remembered  and the controls seem odd. However, the game concept is great and it's lock on the theme is airtight. Seems like it could be a fun full game when balanced right. The levels were designed nice and visually the game looks great. Good job!

This game seems pretty cool. The artwork and the story bit are great too :D. I have a bug which makes it a bit difficult to play, l can only rotate my camera about 60 degrees each way. I believe it is because the mouse cursor isn't locked to the screen, so when l hit the walls of my window, or monitor in fullscreen, then the camera stops rotating. If using unreal engine, l believe locking the cursor only works if the cursor is hidden? Perhaps it is an issue local to my pc somehow. From what l can play like this, the game seems fun, the levels designed well, hiding enemies and encouraging exploring. Nice :D

Another game you should check out that has little ratings. I haven't yet reviewed it, but a member of my team has and l will play it now.

A game I've just been playing is unique and a refreshing change on here, so it should be treated as such when reviewing. I'm sure this developer would appreciate your feedback.

I understand that you value creativity over the typical games that focus on graphics, predictable sequences of events, or familiar genres, and this game delivers. Arguably, you’ve given it more personality than most entries, and it’s a great addition to the jam. If I’m being honest, I think it would be more appreciated in a jam where games aren’t judged across multiple categories designed for more conventional entries. This was unlike anything I’ve played and certainly an experience that stood out, a game that could easily inspire many others. Nice one!

I'm a bit confused by your post, but if there is an issue with the game and you need to reupload files, you'll have to try contact one of the hosts of the jam. I don't know any of them personally, but your best bet is Yasahiro as he was most recently online and has links to other platforms on his account. You can access his account by clicking his name that is on the brackeys jam page at the top, where we entered the jam.

Yeah, l guess true honesty isn't good for the person commenting, so it's cool you've learned to find hidden feedback in the otherwise too kind and vague comments. I would love to see crazy controls, silly genres mixed and unseen mechanics, but I'd say it's more likely in GMTK than the Brackeys jam.

I hear you. What makes jam games fun for me too is the unpredictable, experimental nature, they’re like a developer’s sandbox where anything goes. I know I’ve caught myself slipping into bias (like being too harsh on sidescrollers just because I don’t usually enjoy them, only to review it again before posting), and I think a lot of comments come from that place, even if not on purpose.

That’s why the comment you got reads more positive than negative to me, the person called your game the most fun absolute! which is great praise, even if the wording stuck out. I like your point though, jams are at their best when we judge games on creativity, not just polish, and I’d love to see that culture grow. I’ll give your game a proper try when I’m at my PC tonight and share some honest feedback :)

So nice to hear. Thank you :)

With so many nice games, many are left unseen. So, I'll leave a couple of titles that I'll be reviewing when I'm back at my pc which are underrated, although from what l see, they look promising. I have no connection to these. I'm sure they would appreciate it highly. I will rate your game when I'm back at my pc :)

Thanks, we're happy to hear it :D

Interesting mechanic, this would slap hard on the VR platform :D

Strong slap to the theme, nice. Good sounds and artwork. With a visual tutorial and a bunch of levels with varying targets, this has potential to be a full mobile game

Thanks for playing and adding to the feedback, we admittedly have much to improve upon haha :D.

Fun little game with thoughtful levels. With more content and variety in your art, this would be the sort of thing crazygames.com would eat up haha. Good for a solo week project for sure :D

Nice consistent artwork and animations. The corner desktop application is cool. I'm not too familiar with idle games, so when l say this needs speeding up 4 times, perhaps I'm just too unfamiliar with the intended experience. It doesn't have a strong relation to the theme. Apart from that, l think this game is solid work and certainly stands out in this jam.

I liked the mechanics and the concept of the game, a nice strong relation to the theme. I do think this type of game would benefit from being fast-paced with a slow difficulty curve increase. The art was clear and gave feedback. Overall, l think this was a good entry to the jam :D

Got there in the end haha. Good job

Thanks for the comment :D

Really went for it on the intro and the personality of the racoon. The little bugs with collisions are completely understandable and acceptable for a solo week-long project. The art was nice. I think it could be made into a fun simulation game.

I'm likely wrong but just in case you have multiplied the mouse sensitivity by delta, it would be slower at high frames and faster at slow frames, possibly this is why it is so varied amoung commentors, or perhaps it's just a matter of preference.

When the only real complaint is more content, and possibly harder, then good job :)

Appreciate the detail recognition. Good suggestion. Thanks for playing :P
