Game's real good!!!!!! The controls work surprisingly well after a couple hours, plus the fact that you naturally end up grinding your level up as you go covers for a lot of the awkward learning curve. Well, that and the orbital labubu missiles, they cover up all of my actual skill issues. The later upgrades add SO MUCH to the moveset, but at that point its easy to adapt to the changes in comparison... you really cooked here!!
Go follow Lily right now!!
Going forward with just one joystick (aka wasd OR arrow keys on keyboard) will cause you to lightly turn, as though youre only pushing on one side of the ball, gotta use both joysticks together for an even roll. I think newer katamari games have a "simple controls" option for using just one joystick, but i made it with the classic dual-stick controls in mind. =w=
Ah yeah, theres a "slip" at the start of the drift kinda like Mario Kart where your turning is pretty much disabled, if that's what you mean. It gives drifts a detailed texture that I love in mk8, though it ends up providing an arc similar to a good bounce-drift, so maybe i should make it shorter or remove it altogether to bring the functional variety up, hmm...
Well anyway, thanks for playing!
Especially in the trees and rocky segments, the punishment for hitting obstacles and the amount of pickups required to continue are VERY brutal, so i basically just waited those segments out until i reached a more forgiving one... but this was just beautiful. The music was wonderful, the story was bittersweet (though i do have some questions left unanswered), and the gameplay was spot-on for an old arcade "we still cant actually do 3D yet" racer. Superb.
Every surface around the bridge gets me stuck and unable to continue :( tried walljumping up to skip it at first and thought it was just my bad, but then i tried carefully jumping up the rocks by the cactii and they still stuck me even when i was in the grounded state, so i couldnt climb up to the top of the mountain if there was anything there... Visuals are tastey though, and putting Mario 64/Galaxy-esque controls to work on a keyboard and mouse was ambitious but worked out i think.
I couldnt figure out how to place towers for a while, having a clearer signifier for like, Select mode vs Placing This Tower mode, or something? Or maybe text labels next to your cursor for what either button will do right now? Onboarding aside though, very cute, "Alolan Crow" and "Real Bird" are extremely funny to me, and overall a very satisfying challenge! My highest score was 910, idk if thats very good or not
