ah damn the building feature has a bug... that sucks :(

This game definitely takes a few tries to get into and really understand (I kept mistaking the left bar for spending money), but once it clicks it's rather fun! The game is definitely too difficult to want to keep playing with how short the payment window is (and probably just bad luck on my end), but overall the idea is executed pretty well and having to strategize what to do is very fulfilling. The theme is tied into this well, but it's somewhat annoying to work around.

Overall UI is very consistent and works well but I don't know if it's necessarily 2000s? I might have a bad sense on what the time period looks like, though, so I'm not going to fuss over it. The video is also rather funny and definitely helps ease into the stressful nature of the game, though the end is a little empty.

Great game!

I love me some good procedural generation :]

The game is way too laggy on my end (at least when ran through Wine—I don't even wanna find out how the browser version performs) so I had to watch the video instead. Speaking of the video, it's just gameplay, so not much points for that.

I really like the idea of the game! I've made something alike it myself so it hits a sweet spot for me. The visuals are quite stunning and the modifier idea is pretty cool (though I'm not exactly sure what they really do, if they modify you or the world). It does look a little bleak though, and I think more elements could help make it a little more lively.

.love files can be run on common operating systems, but it requires you install/download the Love2D framework first. I would've made Mac and Windows executables had I more time, but it was getting late and I went the quick route. Anyways:

  1. Download Love2D from https://love2d.org/.
  2. With the engine downloaded, open it so that your operating system associates .love files with it. It should show a "NO GAME" screen.
  3. Double-click or drag-and-drop the game into Love2D. The game should run.

This game is very confusing to say the least. The enemies through the game either do nothing (or seem to do nothing) or are too slow to be an active threat. The gameplay itself of navigating rooms doesn't feel very inspired and score decreases too fast to be able to rack up any amount of points quickly. You also seem to be fighting the engine without actually solving the issue; replacing the "IT'S TOO SLOW" text with something like a loading screen would help presentation, and preventing enemies from attacking during this loading time would also prevent confusing deaths. I also have no idea on how any of this relates to the mutation theme.

The graphics itself are another theme, as it's very inconsistent with a lot of graphical elements from various sources and the rest of them being hand-drawn. Nothing feels cohesive. Music choice also is questionable, as did you do your chores chase theme or smth idk and Clair de Lune contrast the otherwise frenzied energy that the other tracks have. Also about music, please be careful with copyright. I don't know how many of the songs you used you are legally allowed to use.

No comments for the video other than that it's just gameplay. I unfortunately did the same thing, but it would've helped on your part if you had at least cropped and trimmed it as well. It's also audioless,

I had ran the Windows build of this game through Wine so I could play it on Mac. It seems like the flashlight doesn't work correctly for me, so I ended up stumbling around confused in the intro and struggles discerning platforms against walls. I wont deduct points for this, but it might be worth adding some contrast to the platforms you need to jump on. Beyond that, this game was pretty good! The visuals for the UI in particular I loved the most, though the world itself could have a little more work beyond a bunch of cubes.

The dropper sections were long but not necessarily hard, which is good, but the checkpoints could've been a little more frequent since they're only fun the first run through when they're that sparse. The second dropper part is definitely much more engaging, though it's a bit hard to keep up with what's going on, and the slam ability can accidentally make it harder than it should be. The last button on that dropper is rude, though. For the navigation parts, the worldbuilding is quite engaging and the part I enjoyed the most (great tie to the theme!), even if the world didn't fully reflect what was stated. That being said, the difficulty of the platforming isn't consistent throughout the game (there's both tight parts and wide platforms throughout), and the screamer sections weren't any bit interesting (they stop chasing once out of sight), and the second one secluded in a little wall felt cheesy compared to the first one.

The soundtrack for this game is stellar. The video itself does a pretty good job at setting up your expectations, though I forgot to watch that first so I can't really give a proper rating...

I was nearing the end of the deadline by the time I was finally able to get the actual gameplay mechanics in, so I wasn't able to add the necessary context in-game for what's going on, and the video is rushed to the point of just being gameplay with the first song I could think of... (leaving the error in was entirely intentional though; maybe not the best choice?)

The mutation theme is the "going crazy" you saw in the trailer. It might be somewhat hard to make the connection since there's a lot going on, but the colorful "gems" mutate them after enough exposure (either by handling or being near it), which modify their stats drastically (most obviously speed as shown in the trailer).

Apologies you couldn't play! :( Though, I don't know what an "AMC program" is?

I'm hoping that my game doesn't crash during your playthrough...! I accidentally encountered one whilst recording the video for it so that makes me worries there's another one hidden somewhere—I added an autosave though, hopefully anything catastrophic that happens won't happen again after a reboot!

I did the same thing and I'm rushing to get what I need finished before the deadline (and before I sleep)... godspeed to you

hi might as well before the deadline: I've been posting videos of the progress on my game to my side channel

def was a choice deciding to remake polygon boolean operation from scratch but we  ball

I love love2d :]

(pasting here as well so other people can see, idk how exactly the rating system works)

an amazing, incredibly moving story! it does take some extra thinking to piece together and I did have to use the hint system a bit, but otherwise it's not terribly hard. holy SHIT was the account hacking sequence scary though. like that GENUINELY drove fear into me both logging in and failing to log out. thanks for the experience :D

oh wait never mind twice gmtk is in july not june hahahaha

if glomble had text/image posts like YouTube or Tumblr I would be MUCH more active, but alas...

hi!

oh sweet!

nvm took a look at the dates and GMTK's game jam will happen while this one is happening o_o

this'll be a good warm up before GMTK's game jam!

absolutely amazing idea! love the execution and story throughout! wish there was more but this is already great on its own :]

hahahaha this was great!! I love how excited the roomba is over not one, but TWO rooms :P

WOW this is hard

abysmal scores on my end but the experience was still very fun :]

hilarious game! easy to grasp as well! the pans were somewhat hard to aim but thankfully the game is lenient to where this isn't too much of an issue. I think there should be some limit on the bridges though as it's a bit too easy to redirect pancakes to where you need them to go on the fly

this was a fun puzzle! the exam was intimidating at first glance but was actually easier once I went in and solved it (minus one kink)

incidentally, I have no idea how to solve the top right puzzle of page 10 lmao

thank you! genuinely I thought of this overnight and it would've been a buttload weirder if I didn't hold back

thank you!! I wasn't able to get a tutorial done in time unfortunately, and I did consider tooltips for the letters (however decided against it due to how fast-pace the game is), but that is something I will add post-jam. I'm also glad to hear you like the visuals!—that's what I was most worried about

hey can you post this to the #rate-my-game channel (I think it's called that) in the gmtk discord since I can't? reeeaally need the ratings...

thank you! I wasn't able to add a tutorial in time unfortunately, but I figured it might not be too hard to learn

enjoyed the concept here! didn't even notice that I was behind the front part until after I went through the middle again. platforming felt nice to do as well alongside the speedrunning incentive

this is fun!

liked the execution! dodging bullets was satisfying too. enemies could use a health indicator though

hah, this was a fun concept! enjoyed making a beat! the window height was a liiitle too big for me though so I had to dig into the code to scale it down by 20% (which thankfully was easy to do)

oh by the way banger music

thanks! (?)

holy moly this is amazing!!! absolutely loved the puzzles here (and the walking animation) but I'm too skill issued to beat it...

also offset gaming

fun story! though, some of the mechanics like the corn weren't working and the looping system was hard to control at times (you can skip everything thanks to invincibility frames as well). unfortunate that you couldn't get a windows build out...

thanks for playing! I'll definitely add reorienting back to place in a future update

this was fun to play! hitting multiple circles in a row felt really nice

press A every time the timer above it runs out five times, and make sure to keep moving left/right

turns out trying to recreate the softlock is actually extremely hard (frame perfect???), so here's a diagram instead

I think the mechanic could be taught a little better, and a way to reset the area plus buffering input would make this much less harder to play (I got softlocked at the first puzzle)
