Cat Herder is a very unique idea that I think strongly benefis from the theme. However, I felt that the gameplay was far too tedious. Click-and-click was not a fun experience at all. I would've much preferred click-and-drag controls. I feel this idea has potential but the Developer really needs to make this game less tedious. I still enjoyed the experience but it was greatly ruined by the lack of control.
Teh Kitteh deserves recognition for the very sweet graphics. I really enjoyed looking at the Pixel Art in the platforms. It's a decent platformer at heart. I feel the experience was ruined due to some platforms not being possible to reach. It seems that the game becomes more of a puzzle unintentionally. There's no restart button so it clearly unintentional. It's a real shame that the Developer hasn't fixed these problems. Hopefully they fix it soon! Great work, Rainsong! :D
Yarn Ball Grapple Game has such a generic name and that's a real shame. The Developer clearly had trouble trying to think of a suitable name for this game. They also seemed to have trouble coming up with more levels. It's unfortunate, this game has potential. While the concept is quite original with the use of a yarn ball. There's just some things I wish I had seen in this game: Scissors / Sharp Objects that would cut the string you use to propel off the ground. It was very generic hazards; lava, fire, etc. However, I can see the Developer at least tried and that's something I can admire.
I've seen this gameplay mechanic used far better in other games. But that doesn't mean the Developer has failed to deliver something speical. In fact, I recommend you try this game out because while the levels may be short. There is still quite a challenge to them. Specifically, Level 5.
Overall, Nomisio has made something great without realizing its potential. Please continue working on this game! There's so much to love here! Just keep up the great work! :D
Double Cat + Dog is very challenging but I'm not sure whether I can say this was a strategic decision by the Developers. I feel the level design leaves much to be desired. I'm sure there was effort put into this but it just feels there much more focus on the making things too difficult. I'd say it's very unbalanced and unfortunately did ruin my overall experience. I still recommend you try this game out though! Great work Developers! :D
No More Boxes! It's an experience that felt very different to all the other entries. It's a unique concept that I think was very well explored. I feel there could be more features to keep this more of an engaging experience. But I still feel the Developer was bold enough to keep it simplistic. It actually works very well to the Developer's advantage of keeping it simplistic. The art is 8x8, it's not bad at all. The sound effects were nicely implemented. The music is also very upbeat but I feel this music does not match the gameplay speed at all. I feel the Developer could've made this much more interesting if instead clicking for the cat to move was replaced with a sling-short gameplay mechanic. Having to strategically slide your cat into boxes while the other cat could catch up to you. The difficulty never seemed to change. More boxes doesn't count as making it more difficult.
Overall, I feel SketchyJessie did a great attempt at making something different! It's a great game and I do recommend you try it out! Great work, SketchyJessie! :D
Mauw Is a very unique Tower Defense game. I'll admit that it was confusing at first. The information below the game was very useful and helped a lot when I was confused on what to do. The randomizer that is used when you choose a tower is also a unique concept idea. The fact it's set in Egypt was just another great idea! The Developer has really tried to make something original here. I feel it is underrated.
Overall, I recommend trying this game! Great sound design. It just felt like an enjoyable experience once you understand the gameplay mechanics. Great work! :D
Thank you! We are currently trying to fix this issue but we are unsure of whether we are allowed to make this fix while the game has been submitted. We have asked our question on the MiniJam Discord. Hopefully we can fix this issue soon! We apologize for the delay in this bugfix. Thank you for reporting it though! :)
Pocket Pet should not be given a bad rating for enjoyment if you felt you didn't enjoy the game. It is after all a simulator at heart. To be more specific, it's a pet simulator. The minigame is okay.
The artstyle is sweet, the animation is very simplistic and just adorable. The music is very nice. The sounds are nicely implemented with correct volume, etc.
Overall, I recommend trying this game! It's not for everyone but I'm sure it's a game that many can grow to enjoy overtime. There definitely needs to be more content added to keep this engaging.
Great work! :D
Follow Cat is a game that I feel has more potential. The overall gameplay mechanics is what makes up for everything else. Although, I wish I could say this. I'm unfortunately having to share that this experience starts off quite rather enjoyable. It begins to have a very similar experience of Baby Mario & Yoshi. In fact, that's exactly the experience I felt while playing this. There is far too much frustration in this game.
The various environments were decent. It added a slight interest to progression but never truly felt much different to the previous levels. Once again, I was definitely reminded of Yoshi's Island. The player jumps too high and the little cat that follows you sometimes doesn't work. Due to the player needing to use precise platforming skills while holding the movement for right. It just doesn't allow a smooth experience to be had. It may have challenge but this challenge doesn't come from the Developer's work. It comes from the gameplay mechanic that is flawed.
Overall, I'd recommend trying this at least once. If you get too frustrated, I wouldn't recommend trying again. This was an experience that I started to enjoy and very quickly became bored of. I'm sorry Developer. I really wanted to enjoy this experience but it just needs a lot of ironing out.
Great work! :D
BrawlCats is very similar to Super Smash Brawl. However, BrawlCats focuses more on only one gameplay mechanic as the main focus. That is the knock-back feature that applies when you do more damage to the enemies. Unfortunately, due to the lack of focus on other gameplay mechanics. This enjoyable experience soon becomes more infuriating than fun. I feel this game would've benefited more if it had much more movesets.
Attacking the enemy doesn't feel very satisfying. The AI is decent but can often be irritating when faced with the same enemy jumping back to safety every time. The music is great. The sounds are decent. I just wish there was more focus on what made Super Smash Brawl a great experience. I really feel the Developers lost focus on this project. They seemed to focus much more post-processing and making the game look great. There was still a lot of care put into the gameplay mechanics. I just feel it lacked a lot of features that would've made this feel more like a Brawl than a tedious experience.
Overall, it's enjoyable! I do recommend trying it! Great work! :D
Paradoxicat has such a great concept. It's just a real shame that the Developer doesn't take this concept a few steps further. The FPS once again drops with lasers. It's a shame because I had mentioned this in my previous comment before the voting stage. I'm sure the Developer tried their best to fix it but possibly had no time. It's true that when the lasers are blocked, the performance does improve. The level design really needed to be upgraded. It just didn't feel enjoyable. Some levels felt too similar and I felt the lasers weren't introduced very well. It was great to see some originality with the lasers being connected to a pushable platform. I feel this game could've done a lot better if the blue cat was set on a timer to make it more challenging. It just seemed too easy. However, I do appreciate that the developer fixed the exploit I had found previously. Honestly, I had to admit that it's a lot better now!
Overall, BenHen_26 has made a great game that has true potential. It's just a real shame that this potential has not been discovered by the developer yet. Great work! :D
I had no idea this was your first jam. In that case, I do feel slightly bad for the scores I had given you and your friend. However, please don't take it too seriously. As I was only voting what I felt was a fair rating for what I experienced. I'm sure many will enjoy your future builds. I wish you the best of luck with your and your friend's future on the GameJam journey! In all honesty, I really thought that it was still a great experience. At least I got to see Granny holding a cat and falling off a cliff. Thank you for this laugh :D
Cat Tower is a very beautifully aethetically pleasing game that I think deserves a lot more recognition. The artwork is just beautiful to look at and really makes you forget that the limitation was 8x8. The bright background is a perfect color to mix with these platforms. Something that really shines in this game is the overall presentation and the concept. Precise platforming experience with very well thought out and creative platforms. It's also amazing that the Developer used a Cat Tower toy as inspiration for the platforms. This was just an overall really well thought out concept and I found myself enjoying every second of it. I would say the only con is that the game is too short. I feel the music isn't annoying at all.
Great work! :D
Granny's Addiction has captured a concept that I feel really is underused these days. Something that I feel the Developers failed to build upon was that enjoyable experience that this game had the potential for. The concept here is that you play the level, you collect the cat near the end of a level using "E" and then you bring it back to the start, "Granny's House". Like I said, this is why it has true potential to be something amazing! But it fails due to the level design and collision issues. It's also missing a level completion record that I feel really should be included in this game to make it stand out more. It just doesn't feel rewarding to complete a level.
I really admire what Blookane and EdenSpijker have created here. I just wish they had developed it a little further in the right direction. It seems to me that there was too much focus on presentation and not enough focus on gameplay. Overall, a semi-great experience that could've definitely benefited from what I have mentioned above ^^
Great work! :D
Cataclysm is honestly a great game at surface level with the first level feeling very similar to PacMan. While it's a great concept, I really feel the presentation as well as the use of the limitation was much better! The first level was very simple. The second level was slightly more difficult and I feel it was showcasing more of what PacMan should've done to keep things fresh. This game certainly has a lot of great design. The patterns in the levels are great also! The Developer really made a great effort with this project.
I'd really like to see the Developer continue this project as I feel it was a very enjoyable experience! Great work, Pineberry Fox! :D
Getting Out Of It is clearly supposed to be a frustrating platformer. It heavily reminded me of the other frustrating games that exist. However, I really liked the concept despite it not being very orginal. Considering that you made this within a day, I have to give you credit where it's due. This was a great platforming experience!
I really feel this game has potential if the Developer continues to work on it.
Overall, a great fun little experience that can be at times often frustrating! :D
Lucy The Stray certainly manages to capture the cityscape night theme as much as possible. The artwork is very nice for an 8x8 game. I certainly felt that it connected quite well with the tileset. However, I feel the visual for the cat does not blend too well with the other art assets. The music is fine, I just wish that the levels weren't made too durable. Because the music can certainly outstay its welcome along with the levels. I felt that the level design was decent, it provided a challenge. I really liked the transition to Amy.wav's pink tileset. However, I wish it was added to the levels before the Player reaches it in the later levels. It definitely needed more assets to keep things interesting. Overall, I enjoyed playing this game. I just wish the experience could've been better with that much needed polish of implementing more objects to jump over, etc. I'd say it's a decent platformer. The controls are mostly smooth. The collision can be annoying with the Player and the tiles sometimes. I like that speed is needed to make it over some platforms that require the Player to sprint and jump.
It certainly has potential, I really want to give more credit to the artist though because the art is very visually pleasing in my opinion. I'd say more credit to the coder if they had ironed out these bugs.
Great work! Keep up the great work! :D

Honestly, this game was okay. I didn't like the loud cat meows along with the "stupid music" - I was very happy that the Developer added the a mute feature. Overall, I just didn't enjoy this game. I definitely feel you did great with the limitation but the overall experience was not great at all. However, I still tried to play it through to the end. I'm glad others enjoyed this game, this just wasn't for me. I hope you take no offense to my comment because in all honesty, it was okay.
Thank you for your response! We certainly developed the idea further the more we worked together. I'm aware of this problem and I believe we are currently looking into repairing this issue for future builds. I appreciate your comment! I just want you to know that I've managed to replicate this bug by spawning a fighter bee too. It seems that the hive is then frozen with all bees trapped inside of it. Hopefully we can fix this soon!
We hope you can enjoy your beekeeper experience again sometime soon! :D
You're truly most welcome, Developer! I definitely think the changes you made were great. There's still the problem with the battery UI not always working correctly. I appreciate the additional content you added to the barren areas. It's looking a lot better. I still think there needs to be a few more locations to visit. I think it gets to the end too quickly for the ending to have as powerful as an effect as it should have. I also feel you should add some pictures on the wall of that woman with the cat to really capture the emotion of the Player's sadness by the sudden ending. Anyway, I really enjoyed it again. I also think you should try to make the hedge cover the (Ending) so that it's even more of a surprise when the Player slowly approaches it. You can do this by changing some of the ordering layers. Anyway, it looks a lot better! Great work! :)
[Previous Thoughts Before The Voting Phase]
C05-M0 engages the Player with the story it's presenting from the very beginning. Using the Title Screen with the button to [POWER ON] this robotic cat is such a nice touch. It's something you don't usually see a lot in modern indie games. I'm aware that this idea has been executed well before but I feel the Underpaid_Goblin was able to make this work with very simple cute animations.
While I'm aware that the duration to create an entry for this project is quite stressful depending on the scope of your project. I will admit that while it's still great that the game is the way it is. I just feel that there was slight immersion being broken for me when I selected: "POWER ON", only to find that the game immediately jumps to the gameplay. I really feel a short animation or short transition could've really made this feel more like you are powering on this robotic feline. However, this is not discrediting the Developer. I actually feel that even without this simple transition, the game still holds well on its own.
Unfortunately, there is the issue of not always being able to read the text presented to you clearly. This is definitely something I would highly recommend fixing as I feel the story is very important. After all, the ending to this game is what really defines the tone that this Developer is trying to present us with.
Great use of 8x8 artwork! I really liked how everything just fit really well together. From the first location which I feel was the most atmospheric. To the location that I feel stands out even more, the final scene. However, I still enjoyed the scenes before the ending. I just feel there wasn't much to take in. I also liked the attention to detail of the cat being behind the table legs, etc. That was another great addition to attenton to detail.
[Gameplay Mechanics]
Battery is something that is heavily focused on in this game. I really like how the battery deplenishes slowly while you are making progression through the game. I feel the Developer didn't want to make this game challenging and really just wanted to keep the immersion of the Player exploring this world. Whether intentional or not, you could even begin to theorize as the player who lives in the house. There's pictures on the wall that clearly show that this robot cat lives there. It's all very strange and I feel the music itself really reflects on this too.
Breakable Vases is something that I was instantly reminded of games like Spyro, etc. I feel that the Developer made great use of Physics in this project. There's really not much more to say but I really liked everything that the Developer had thought of while making this game.
Overall: 8/10! Definitely something that needs some improvement but I feel the general idea here has been captured too well. You certainly deserve a higher score! Keep up the great work, Developer!
CO5-M0 is truly a great short adventure that really manages to capture the story it's trying to tell the Player. I feel there's a lot to enjoy here. While at surface level is your average-basic platformer. It's still standing with some originiality with the well-thoughtout addition of the cat being able to push things off shelves, etc. However, the truly inspiring part to take away from this is the fact that this is not just any cat. This is a Robotic Cat. Something that I think should be given extra credit. A great idea that I feel deserves a lot more recognition! Great work! :)
