okay, I'm too dumb for this :-(
first downloaded zx spin but that royally screwed with screen resolution :-/
so tried fuse. but cant get further than the first room.
like i even pressed 4 in the main menu and set the keys to wasd kj.
but none of the other 3 did anything.
1 and 3 ("keys qaopm gh" and "sinclair") got me to the sleeping princess where no key press did anything.
2 ("kempston") did also open the princess, room, princess stands up and right back to main menu, all within like a second.
so yeah, I'm too stupid for this :-)
Perhaps just understanding some terms could be useful.
You aren't stupid at all, you just don't know the Specrum, that's all!
"Kempston" and "Sinclair" were two joystick standards used at that time.
My advice is to try again with the "QAOP" option and you should be able to move the princess around.
Q= up
A= down
O= left
P= right
I don't remember if the trigger button is SPACE or M, I must verify that.
