Alright, hear me out, this game might be one of the best games in the jam if it had more time. Let me explain.
The art in this game is FABULOUS, while the pixel art looks great, the shaders that are used are just on another level, honestly the parallax effect along with all the lighting is just perfect. This game presents modern style pixel art at it's finest. And did I mention the water shader? I love how it is pixel perfect and gets affected even by the lights. This game's art in general gives very similar vibes to the game “Kingdom Two Crowns”, except with a pixel perfect shader (which I personally prefer).
But that's enough for the art, I saw many people in the comments praising the art and the atmosphere, but very few talked about the gameplay. Which is a shame because personally, I find the gameplay, although incomplete and buggy, has such a great potential. From the moment I saw all the menu options, stats, materials, and random events, I knew this game is gold. It feels like there are enough gameplay elements to make this such a great game, even though the game had a scope too big for a 3-day game jam, I hugely respect the amount of progress you managed to complete in such a short amount of time, I believe if the jam was 7-days or if there were more team members, this game would've easily been at the top of the leaderboard.
Now that I finished my monologue, time for chapter 2, random thoughts/suggestions/issues/bugs I found:
— The sound effects are great, it adds to the atmosphere and makes the overall experience very good, the music choice is also very good (the audio in general is very good).
— The farming system is very solid, although I wished the different plants would give different fruits, it is very much well-made.
— I'm not sure about this, but I believe there is a day-night cycle in the game, correct? Well, if there is, my god, it adds so much to the atmosphere, it really makes the game look fantastic.
— The merchant shop is very much broken, the left column of buttons just give me money when I click them, while the right column just gives me the item for free.
— It is very awkward to reload with R, since every other action is done with the mouse, I think it would make more sense to also make the gun reload with the mouse. (or maybe reload automatically?)
— The farming menu has a couple of unnecessary options that I think can be removed, mainly the harvest and plant. When the player in the farming mode, there is no need for the gun, so why not make the right click button plants and harvests plants instead? Also, the “status” section can be simplified with a “+” button next each bar, along with an icon of what item it's consuming.
— The farming menu buttons text is really, really small, it's quite difficult to read.
— The crops currently don't have any gameplay effect, I believe this is probably due to time constraints, but here's a suggestion anyway: crops should be consumed every hour, so the player has to keep planting and growing them, you know, post-apocalyptic survival farming game action.
— I love that there are things around the map that you can collect, like water drops and such, it helps with waiting for the plants to grow, and give a small reward for scavenging.
— This is probably intentional, but I have a problem with the ammunition not being consumed when I shoot, I know it consumes 6 when I reload, but why does it consume even if the gun is full? (sorry, I have a lot of nitpicks)
— This game has the best implementation of Arabic language that I have seen so far, with a one-click switch between Arabic & English, I'm quite curious as to how you've managed to do it. (it would love to “borrow” your implementation :D)
— One last thing, I love that even though this is a jam game, you manged to add a settings menu, honestly, more games should do this.
In conclusion, this is by far my favorite entry to this jam (if you couldn't tell by the wall of text I wrote), despite its current state, and the number of bugs/issues that exist in this version, I see great potential in this game, and I really hope you continue working on it, at least until it reaches the greatness that it was destined to.
Good luck with your project! (and sorry if my review was a bit longer than expected)
