This was a very fun, well-conceived and polished game! I really loved the ambience and the way the story is set up - like going to the afterlife is a long commute after a hard day's work. The artwork was gorgeous, with a stylish color palette that really suited the "twilight/city at night" aesthetic, and I loved the way that the background rolled past. The rendering on the sprite was very good as well, and the BGM was well-chosen to fit the atmosphere!
SLIGHT SPOILERS
The story was really cleverly set up, and I loved the premise and the twist. I appreciate that you actually choose your ending in just one singular choice - whether you wish to disappear because of your crimes, or whether you wish Jianyu to disappear. I think it really makes the choice much more impactful and meaningful - whether, ultimately, you choose to redeem yourself or to save the person that you wronged.
It's interesting that, either way - Jianyu doesn't get angry at you - it seems like he has also wronged people in the past, and he accepts his fate (as well as the mistakes of others). I like how Jianyu's past is hinted at without being directly stated, as it leaves a bit of mystery for the player to unravel. It was also interesting seeing how the choices leading up to the final decision heavily influenced some of the dialogue in one of the endings - whether you learn about Jianyu's child, to give him the opportunity to be a good father in the living world.
Although the game was short (being an O2A2 entry), I was very invested in Jianyu's character by the end of the game! I hope that he is able to be a good father! (As I choose the ending in which he lives to be my ending, haha!)
Really good work, azure! :)
