Good job introducing the controls and interactions with items with the on-screen pop-up text.  This really helps the players learn the game and what to do!

I could tell a lot of work was put into this one, and it turned out great.  A couple small complaints, though.  I didn't like how far I had to go into the blue locked door area before finding the door.  I traversed a lot before knowing I'd need a key I didn't have and then had to backtrack a lot.  And then besides that, I think the edges of the screen where the player can transition need to be visually distinct in some way from those that the player can't (if you just make the ones you can't into walls, it solves this problem).  There were a few times where I thought I was going to walk into another screen, but it was just an invisible wall.

But overall very fun platformer!

Thanks for the feedback!

The main idea of the game was about exploration, so the going back and forth was part of the design. I tried to make the levels relatively short to make the exploration fun and not boring.

About the walls, I see what you mean, it should've been more clear where you can and can't go.

Really fun game! I enjoyed it! I like the exploration, the keys, the variety of enemies and obstacles that you have combined to create interesting encounters. I don't like the use of a run key though, as I basically just held it down for the entire time. I was going to say the same about the duck-jump as I found myself always using it, but then there was a jump-pad-into-spikes combo that meant I needed to consider my jump height...

Developer

I had some thoughts about it, and I could cancel the run and the crouch buttons.

But in the end I think they have their advantages. The crouch button is important because not all your jumps should be high, and the run button is important because beginners might want to move more slowly :)

True, but in which case you could make is a walk button instead? Or a run/walk toggle? In a recent game I made (Dave the Space Pirate) I do exactly that - Dave starts off running but there is a run/walk toggle so that the player can choose a slower speed for more delicate platforming elements... It worked quite well :)

I like the idea of the toggle :)

Awesome game. Enjoyed playing it. I spent 25-30 minutes to complete it. And i think it's one of the most polished games in jam. Good luck in your projects!

Thanks! :)

Wow, this is probably one of my favorite games that I've played so far, no exaggeration. Just getting my nitpick out of the way, I would've preferred the sprint/run button to be left Shift instead of D. But honestly, that's about it; I personally like platformers with interesting mechanics, and this was simple yet straightforward; crouch jumping felt really good to control.

I really liked that you had to go between houses to get the right keys that opened doors, it felt similar to a Metroidvania in that sense. The jumping felt good, the movement felt solid, and the houses weren't too big, so I wasn't getting bored moving from house to house. The boss fight at the end was the right level of challenge for me, and I thought the little text pop-ups at the end were interesting, kind of like you were implying some story behind the player character.

All in all, this is a fantastic entry! Gameplay felt really good, the exploration theme was conveyed very well, and the presentation is quite solid. I could see you taking this concept and just adding more levels, or more houses with keys/locks to build a larger game. Excellent work!

very nice game, fun to play but the music gets a little bit repetitive, great job tho

Developer

Happy that you liked it! the music could be more polished, but I didn't have time for it hahaha XD

My rating isn't quite acurate I was having trouble with the controls and couldn't make it past the first big jump

Developer

Hi, was it the place where you need to hold the space button for long and high jump?

Submitted

Indeed it was, it feels just too high up

Developer

You need to crouch (with down arrow) and then jump, your jump will be much higher.
