Really cool idea and quite hard too!

Thank you for playing!

Fun twist and usage of the theme! I'm also a big fan of the assets used, it gives it a sort of early play station vibe.

Developer

Thank you! And yeah that's one of the things I loved about that set of assets :D

Love the concept! It feels very hectic and tense as your crowd diminishes. I'd love to see the gameplay developed further after the Jam! This might be an overhall but i could imagine WASD controlling the crowd constantly (rather than clicking) and maybe being able to change their formation? So go into a line to get down a narrow path/dodge bullets, then changing to a square to be better dodging all angles overall. This could also add puzzle elements, like needing to stand on two buttons by changing formation, or even having the ability to temporarily leave people and split the group! That was just some thoughts but it's such a fun idea there is so much you could do with it!

I had originally planned to have formations be a core part of the game but (as always with gamejams) had to scale down scope - but I'm glad you suggested that! Thanks for playing and the positive comment :)

Oh fair enough, it's crazy how much you were able to put together in such a short period of time! Really impressive :)

Lots of drama how my crew of bystanders was slowly diminished. Very tragic. I think the art assets were well chosen an put together. I think the connection to the theme of the jam is very strong. It  really feels like you are in the background of the action. It's an interesting perspective.

Thank you! :)

Neat idea! Very challenging, between the limited control of your group, how slowly they move, and the visibility of the terrain at times.

Makes for a very tense play session, which I can feel you were going for.

Love this idea, but I found it very difficult. It was difficult to get the bystanders where I wanted them to go and they kept falling off-screen behind the hero (just like bystanders normally do in escort missions, lol), so I couldn't see what they were walking into to get them to avoid obstacles. I second the wish to be able to click on the screen for where they should go instead of using the keyboard. I definitely started to get the hang of it after several tries, though! I'm very impressed with how well done it is after just 48 hours. I know scripting the bystanders crowd abilities couldn't have been easy :)

Thank you so much :D

I definitely agree I overturned the difficulty a little, oops! There wasn't much time for play testing! I played around a little with making the hero walk on the right side of the screen, but it became very easy and you couldn't see where he was shooting most of the time - so I thought it better to almost force you to walk infront / around. It seems I should have compensated for the increased difficulty of that with faster movement and mouse controls :)

this is such a cool idea! challenging, though. I definitely wanted to click with my mouse to call the bystanders to a spot instead of pressing space, because of how that kind of mechanics has worked in other games. Would be interested in seeing this developed more!

Thank you so much! What's funny is that I did code the ability to use the mouse, but I turned it off! I kind of liked how you have to factor in how fast your cursor is, but probably wasn't necessary considering it was tough enough as is :D

I loved this, would actually really be cool as a full game. Difficulty is a little hard but so is my game XD

Thank you!

Really nice idea and the hero is also quite good shooting

Developer

Thanks for playing! I was hoping to give the hero more states to make his actions a bit more random, but didn't have the time :D

Enjoyable, reminds me of a section in half life 2. Good use of the theme, very clear with the colour shadow projection why I got hurt, and it was fun!

Quite difficult, but hero definitely made it easier!

Every time I do a jam I'm guilty of making things just slightly too difficult! Thanks for the comment <3
