Very zen, though the role reversal aspect feels weak. It'd be nice if we could watch an AI build stuff on the tiles we made, somehow. The map building aspect is very fun, I can imagine myself playing it for hours XD

I liked it! It was very relaxing and figuring out how to score in each level based off of the map title was a fun challenge.

Cool and original concept that fits the theme.

I agree with the comments of others saying that it is a bit unclear at first how the scoring rules work.

Also as a suggestion, I would add a ‘ghost’ tile preview of the tile you are going to place, rather than only the tile queue at the bottom right.

Relaxing game! I didn't understand how get points, it seems give points when placing grass close to water and vice versa but I didn't get why. Anyway, great job!

Thanks for playing, there's a comment below on how points are generated. The level name + RNG are meant to nudge the player, but it could have used a couple iterations.

Ah, I wish some settlers would actually come.

This would make it possible for different styles of gameplay. One where you try to be nice and another where you try to make their life harder. :) This could feel like a god sim game this way.

The game is very creative and unique. The gameplay is very calm. Adding some complexity and interaction between tiles and it can be a full game. Fantastic work!

Very chill and meditative gameplay, and thank God the rules are very intuitive. I would work more on presentation, to make all the animations or interface pop out. This type of game is a must for a phone. Overall, good project.

Very chill, and great looking graphics. Found some sorting issues with mountains. I think this game would be a lot of fun if there were actual civilizations living and fighting on your terrain as you build it.

Thanks for playing!  What do you mean by sorting issue? Mountains are fairly rare up until the last level, the RNG in each level is fixed to match a theme.

If I had more time adding some civilizations was next on the plan!

I mean when I place a mountain below another mountain it draws behind it

While playing all I could think about is Battle for Westnoth, and it fun to feel nostalgic about that game again. Would be great if you could print out the map you made once you finished!

Like others said, big Dorfromantik vibes. I love that you're given a 'generation option' to work to, but from your other comments it doesn't seem to be much other than a map name; it would be really cool if, say, on the lakes level you got a 2x mod for making lakes (which could be three adjacent water tiles rather than a chain, which is more like a river?). Of course that's way too much to ask for a jam game, but I could definitely see this being expanded that way.

In terms of introducing the concepts to players- obviously part of the game is learning the interactions but for a more chill experience you could definitely make a user/generation guide simlar to that of Terra Nova but visually inspired by the old zoo/rollercoaster tycoon or AoE interfaces that shows example layouts. 

Anyways, yeah, cute and well made jam game with lots of potential. Good luck!

Thanks for playing! I had lots of fun thinking about all the ways points could be scored, there's so many options. Another lever I used was the weighted RNG tied to each level. In Lakes, land tiles are significantly more likely than water to force the player to make lakes if they want to meet the score requirement. Archipelago is the opposite and forces the creation of islands.

Cool idea for the game! At first it seemed a bit too relaxing but then I noticed that the way you place tiles actually matters and game got much more engaging. Reminds me a bit of Dorfromantik. Overall a nice entry, congrats!

Soothing, there's something here.  A more fleshed out score system (even arbitrary points) would do wonders for tracking progress.

You mention 4x games here, and into the breach on your review of our game, and can see the influence from games like those on your art choice.  They're beautiful tiles. Good game!

I like the concept, and I think this is one of those games that could work in a much larger scale as well... Especially if you could really add the settlers you mentioned in the description :)

Cozy map maker. Would be neat to see more tile variety depending on the climate, but I can certainly appreciate what's already available. Most relaxing puzzly game so far.

Yes! I had some ideas for desert and tundra tiles too. Maybe surround one water with desert to make an oases or something.

This is a very cool game, really soothing to play. Its nice to try and work out exactly how to get the points, the same thing doesnt just work each time. I feel more relaxed already

Thanks for playing! If I had more time I would definitely add some visual feedback before placing the tiles instead of after.

SPOILERS--

The scoring is fairly straightforward under the hood and I was hoping the levels would teach it but there isn't enough feedback for it to be intuitive. Each level uses different RNG weights to push the player to draw a certain type of map.

  • Grass Tiles:
    • 0 points
    • 1 point if adjacent to water
  • Water Tiles
    • 3 Points if chain of water is surrounded by non-water tiles (You made a Lake - Level 2)
    • 5 point if water surrounds a chain of non-water tiles (You made an island -Level 3)
  • Forest Tile
    • 0 points
    • 5 points if next to water (Level 4)
  • Mountain Tile
    • 0 points
    • 5 points if next to water
    • 1 point for every mountain it's connected to (You continued a mountain range - Level 5)
