crashes on startup (Play date)

Sorry for the trouble. I sideloaded the currently live build and could not replicate. Could you verify your Playdate OS version? (Mine is 1.12.3)

mine is the same. 1.12.3

Thanks for following up, will investigate.

also crashed before gameplay on 1.12.3 but i Need some Root Bear in my life

the download still seems to be on 1.1 which again crashes for me (still on 1.12.3). Does 1.2 work? I'd like to see this bear business

I still am unable to replicate. 1.2 fixes a few more issues and may be worth a shot. Is there any chance you can send me a crash log?

I also recommend doing a full power cycle by using a paper clip in the small hole located inside the crank dock. I've heard that can clear up some issues.

And yes, forgot to increment the version code to 1.2. Should now be fixed.

1.2 crashes on load here.

Did you try resetting the Playdate by sticking a paperclip into the little hole inside the crank recess for a few seconds?

I'm honestly a little stumped, but from what little knowledge I have, it's possible this is a firmware issue.
