More of a visual novel than an actual game. Yes, three hours is not much!

What engine did you use for the premade menus and dialog control?

A VN software called Ren'py. 

The original plan was to have various points where the player had to choose which direction to go (i.e. did the wizard say to follow the trail or enter the woods) to create user input and making the wrong choice would result in respawning at the wizard's workshop, but my three hours went by too quickly to incorporate that.
