I liked it! Visually there's not much to say besides the obvious. The art direction was clearly the big focus here and it created a cozy hand-drawn scene as you played. The biggest thing I think could've helped the style visually was some in-between frames for Marisa going into different animations, but that's a lot to tack on in a jam period so it's by all means acceptable. I also do like how the non-hand-drawn particle effects looked when you kill the fairies, and I think it would've also been a nice addition to other instances to provide feedback, like when firing bullets.

Firing in different directions was a fun way to spice up Touhou gameplay, and it'd be really cool to see this done with analog twin sticks imo. The way the player moves is good too, since it's standard bullet hell precision movement. The biggest oddball is that all the boss's normal spread attacks are reaaaaaally easy to dodge when you're far away. Maybe a quick fix to that would have been having the whole spread rotate a tiny bit around its origin after it spreads out a bit, so there's some challenge and you can't just stay still.

The music was nice, and I know audio was probably not as much of a huge focus, but a bullet firing sound probably would have went a long way. The sound design feels empty until you start hitting an enemy. Any other nitpicks for this game would just come down to having more time to polish the little things and add some flair and effects. So for a solo game especially this is a great entry!

Firstly, I would like to thank you for hosting this jam, and I hope you will keep hosting them in the future. Touhou has brought so much joy to my life and an event like this brings even more joy.

I also would like to thank you for the elaborate feedbacks you have given to the participants. This really helps us become better game makers.

I do admit that as a solo developer, I had cut many corners, which is reflected in the lack transition states, impact effects, and sound effect, etc. So I primarily focused on experimenting with the new art styles and see whether people would like them. However, as too many corners are being cut, I also feel that the game is quite “empty” in various aspects.

Now that the jam is nearly over, if time allows, I think I will keep working on this project, and make gradual updates that addresses the issues you pointed out here, such as the problem with the overly-easy boss attacks. I think I will also support joystick control, which will allow users to use their PS4/XBox controllers.

Once again thank you for everything!
