Female Protagonist, I'm begging you

I don't usually play any game with a male protagonist (no offense guys), but I love this game, so I don't want any reason not to play it. I am playing the newest FREE version (I admit) but I will sure as hell pay to support it if I get to be a female. I was under the impression my character would be a futa, not a full-blown (get it?) man. I also thought female enemies existed.

Also, I don't like gargantuan butts and thighs. Cellulite is not my thing by any means. It is a thing I tend to oppose (that is why I work out). The closest thing I have found to a favorite enemy is the harpy, cuz she looks very female and does not have thighs the size of my car.

Okay, so I have pretty much complained the whole time. Time to get positive!

I looooove this game! I played all dam night, and I want to play this as my main game for a while. Everything about the game is really wonderful except the lack of female NPC's and enemies (love the brothel manager though) and a female main character. Seems like everyone on this game's planet is male.

I would love to build on the relationship thing too, since it seems like that is a thing in this game (the elf). Nothing too big, just a recurring date sequence between me and the person I choose to date would be nice. Hell, you can even be a mother in this game, so there is so very much room for an actual relationship (maybe even marriage?!) in this game.

Oh, and SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Don't read this if you don't want things spoiled!!!! I WARNED YOU PEOPLE! Stop reading and run away!!

Don't kill me if I have the spider girl's babies please, I was looking forward to being her babies' mother! I gave birth to the mermaid's kids and thought I was going to be allowed to give birth to the sexy spider girl's kids too, especially since I met all the requirements to surviving the trip to meet her (gauntlets and anklets). So far, she and the harpy are my 2 sexiest favorites. Also pretty much everything about the encounter(s) with the mermaid is surprisingly romantic. :-) She is such a sweetheart! It is a rare occasion when I feel warm and tender feelings from a hentai game. hahaha XD

In closing, I have also linked your game's page to loverslab.com. I hope that is fine...

This game surely deserves a lot of support. But PLEEEEASE add a female protagonist! I am fine with being futa, but don't wanna have balls! I want those replaced with a vagina please. Classic futa. Oh, and keep all the anal content. :D

Thank you! *hugs*

Correction: Now Patreon Dragon Tier XD

Couldn't resist. Totally worth supporting this game. Now if only this gigantic download from dropbox would finally complete........... 3.7GB and still waiting  QQ

3.7gb? Seems like an aweful lot compared to the free game.

Yeah that was my fault. I downloaded the whole folder instead of just picking the Win64 game. I was getting the apk for Android, the 32 bit version and the pics. The game is more like 587mb (unzipped) for the Win64 game.

Disclaimer: I haven't beaten the game yet. I skipped past the spoilery bit in the original post.

I heartily agree. Having a female protagonist would of course mean a lot of changes in dialogue, gameplay, and artwork, but for the level of customizability, I think it would be very worth it.

On one hand, the name Tales of Androgny would imply that having a protagonist who, shall we say, isn't exactly the picture of stereotypical gender roles is one of the main themes; on the other hand, considering the nature of the game with dialogue often being purposefully degrading, I think allowing the player to control the content of the game would be a great boon.

Now, hear me out; I'm probably going to sound like an "angry SJW" with this, but while I do believe in social justice (SJW is a self-contradictory term meant to point out the hypocrisy of the more extreme left), I also believe that as a work of fiction, any one game or item of media has the right to exist, regardless of the views it seems to advocate or the demographic it caters to. The reason I advocate control of content is because it allows the game to cater to a wider audience, meaning more people play it, meaning more people buy/support it. A good deal all around.

There are several reasons why I think having a female protagonist would be a good way to do that. One, seeing as this is meant to be, y'know, an erotic game, people have very different and specific tastes when it comes to erotica. Some might be turned on by an effeminate boy, some might not. Two, trans people- not that people can't play as a different gender from their own, but that, since the game refers to the protagonist as "you" in all dialogue, including the more explicit stuff, it could be a turn-off for trans people who would struggle with that, or even cis people who struggle with them, personally,  being referred to in certain ways, especially because the game uses a lot of gendered language and slang. Again, I realize that's probably meant to be a theme of the game, but I think that with the right handling, more customization could allow players a more enjoyable experience.

Potential marketability aside, I personally think the option for a female protagonist would be awesome. You could choose your anatomy, whether or not to have breasts, a penis, a vagina, balls etc., and what you'd be referred to in-game (being agender, I'd like a they/them option). Having a vagina would make things really interesting; the changes to dialogue in fights such as the Wereslut and even the potential for actual pregnancy could change the feel of the game quiet a bit, making it fun to replay with different settings.

P.S. OP, if you enable the Futa+ setting in the Settings menu, more (but not all) of the enemies you encounter will be more feminine, but with the same genitals. I played with it on the first time, so I was confused by what you meant until I tried playing with Futa+ off. Just in case you didn't know.

Let me save you guys some time on the female protagonist note: It ain't happening. The question's come up before and the developer response was the best that might happen is they change the pronouns and lock out the content that involves your character's dick. And that's barely a footnote on the todo list as Majalis is busy adding quality content and features to the game.

The simple fact is that this is one of about 2 or 3 games out there with a primary focus of futa on male content, but if you want to be a customizable protagonist (male, female, trans, whatever) who gets raped by futas or guys, there are literally dozens of games with that already. Majalis has a fairly good base of support for Tales right now. Changing their whole development plan and slowing/stopping new content just so they can go back and rework their entire thing to attempt to appeal to a larger base that already has a WIDE variety of options would not be a smart move.

And it's not one we want them to make either. We like the game as it is, we like the content they make, we don't want to see the whole thing turned more generic in the name of pandering to a bigger crowd. Even if they did want to do that (which I sincerely hope they don't), it would make FAR more sense to finish up development for Tales and make a whole new game from the ground up because, trust me: turning a project in a whole new direction after years of developing it is a really stupid idea. Thankfully, for now, if you want to play a female: look elsewhere.

@Flamy: This is not political, I just want to play as my own gender ffs.

And no, changing the dialogue would be easy, especially to the person who wrote it, as he knows where the dialogues would be found, and more especially this early on in production before there became a lot of dialogues to look for. As for the animations, those have not been made yet. Not for the protag. Nothing to change at all.

@Solvarok: To want the choice to be male or female makes perfect sense, especially in this type of game, and those other games you say I should play instead are not as good, lets be honest. Suggesting a boy is the only one who has the right to be a protag in this game is just not okay. Never have I said a man should have no right to be in a game.  "Sincerely hoping they don't" add a female is pretty dirty of you to decide for the rest of us. I strongly doubt I am the only one who wants a female to be an option in this game.

This is the only H-game I have supported on Patreon, and it is because of the way the gameplay is, and the dialogue, and how the skills are used. This is basically a well made AAA game in the form of a hentai game. This game is better than almost all other H's in terms of RPG elements, story, and potential, but to know people like you actively suggest to these devs that a gender option should not be added is selfish. This game would have a much larger fan-base if a gender option was added, and that is not "generic pandering", it is the act of a smart, open-minded developer, and this early on it would take very very little to make a second protag option. How often do you see the protag in this game? Like never, and the little image you do see during fights looks like a gir, so my suggestion is not hard to pull off.

As far as I am concerned, every game that lets you "create and customize your character" should have a gender selection option, at least in a game that blatantly shows off both boobs and penises, especially when the protag is wearing a Skirt, with pig-tails, and a crop-top, and let's consider the fact this game does have females in it... females that look like females, not androgynous. Example: The Elf with the flower.

You went well out of your way to insult my perfectly valid suggestion, and I will thank you to troll elsewhere.

I would answer : people like you actively suggest to these devs that a gender option should be added is selfish.

It's not insulting, it's just arguing as well as you.

You are free to take offense at whatever you choose, from someone else's opinion to the color or the sky, but if it was my actual intention to insult or troll you I would be far more blunt about it. Now,  I'm sure you'll take offense at this post too for the same reason as the last one [because I disagree with you] but just like you can be insulted at will, I am free not to care.

First: it is not early in the development. Majalis has been working on this for two YEARS at this point and their concept for the game (and some of the art) is even older than that. That concept being a sexy trap RPG. That's part of why it is so much better than most games out there, they stuck with it. And quite frankly if there is anything in this thread that is insulting it's you taking so much time and effort so lightly.

Second: you see the protagonist in every piece of sex art they do which would all have to be updated or changed if they really wanted to add females in and maintain the quality of the game. Not to mention all the hard coded male pronouns that would have to be replaced by tags. It's not like there's one big wall of text and they can just hit control f and replace them all, that's a lot of work to set up and debug.

Third: just because something makes perfect sense TO YOU does not mean it is a good idea. Go to hentai-foundry.com and look at Majalis past art and stories. Take a long look and see if you can find a common theme. Now, what I get from that is the content in the game is what Majalis actually likes. They like to draw and write about it and while other things exist, those other things are the significant minority. When people stop doing what they like just because others like other things more it has an effect on their work, one I have no shame in saying I hope can be avoid.

Fourth: It may be selfish to say that I don't want Majalis to spend their time making a female protagonist. But honey, you're missing one very important point: this is a SEX game. People are allowed to be selfish on that subject. You don't get to demand affirmative action on who people fuck, and equal opportunity porn isn't a thing either. If I want them to not spend their time adding something which does nothing for me, I can say so and no one is going to take you seriously if you argue that I can't or shouldn't.

In summary: you're ignorant, you're arrogant, you're condescending, and I hope they keep the player solely male for both the reasons listed here and in my last post. But I will throw you one bone:

Your idea is terrible. There, NOW I've insulted it.

+1 for every Majalis fan. :)

Wow, this got ugly quickly.

Let's take a step back: On one hand, consumers have every right to want something different out of a game than what is initially provided. Just wanting something different isn't an insult to the developer; in most cases, it shows that one is invested enough in the game already. Toxic gamer culture is just a vocal minority. On the other, so does the developer have every right to make the game how they want it to be.

Mass-produced AAA games are often held to a different standard on appealing to different audiences since they are mass-produced and influential in culture. These days, most games that don't allow customization are those in which the player character is an entire character of their own, such as the Zelda games. Now that the technology is advanced enough for it, customization adds to one of the major reasons people enjoy games; feeling like one is in the game, in the story, so to speak. Considering the feel of the game, I, personally, find it a reasonable idea to add in custom gender and sex settings. Not knowing much about the developer or development process of this game, I am of course poorly informed to come to any actual conclusions, but note that most players are casual, coming to this game through the Game Jam page or tag searches. I believe that if one sets out to make a living off of media, one must be willing to welcome any and all paying customers.

As mentioned above, it's entirely possible that having a male protagonist is intended to be inherent of the game (though this is rather self-conflicting since the game gives you quite a bit of customization options), but even if that were true, having an option to play as a female protagonist is still a valid option. I have not the monetary means to support this game, so my voice likely means little, but I hope it at least means something that I've played and enjoyed it. Like ShioriS said, there are almost certainly other people who would appreciate more character customization and may even be driven to support/support further as a result.

Tell ya what, when you go to every other hgame on the planet that only has female protags and fight for them to have a male option maybe i'll respect this opinion. Until then, hard pass. Happy to finally have a game targeted to men being violated.
