Description
This track was created as the theme for an (imaginary) 8-bit JRPG in which the story unfolds simultaneously on a large, volatile planet ruled by feudal lords, and its only moon: a small, verdant paradise that suddenly faces existential threat from a mysterious power after many centuries of peace. These two disparate worlds have long since stopped all contact with each other, but two inhabitants have found they can reach out across the void to each other through their dreams...

This track was made using Renoise and some chiptune plugins that I programmed myself using the JUCE framework. I recorded the low-res samples myself, you're free to use them if you like.

Theme:

Two Worlds
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The track contrasts bright arpeggios and typical chiptune melodies with harsh low-res drums/voice samples and bass drones. These differences represent the different environments and cultures of the two worlds in the game.

I love this retro sound-- the compressed drums work really well with the synths. The retro-futuristic vibe is perfect for an 8-bit JRPG set in space.

I thought the voice sample was kinda weird, but it certainly adds character. I also found the synth melody near the end a bit piercing; I would have preferred a lower octave or a low-pass filter on that.

Great job!

This has a really great vibe.  I'm not usually a chiptunes person, but the way you manage to create such an evocative tone within that limited framework is really impressive.

I love how spacey the track feels, and the voice samples are a wonderfully creative choice.  And fantastic work with the plugins, they sound great!

This was a cool track, great work on this! I especially liked the voice sample, gave me a Sega feel.

Getting that classic JRPG feel--almost like Chrono Trigger, or as the other guy pointed out, FF. I wish there was more contrast between the chiptune aspects and the vox samples.

Love the mixture of tonalities here! Especially that initial phrase in Dorian mode lol. the arps are reminiscent of the Final Fantasy menu theme
