We strongly suggest avoiding using external uploads. We can't track how people access them and can't guarantee that the files are actually downloadable. If people try to download them and have an issue then they're likely to try again and it will get counted again. Any download counts for external files are at best an estimate.

The good news is that our default limit for web uploads is now 1GB since the past year, and if you use butler then you get an even larger default upload (I think 1.5x if I remember correctly)

In the future we're likely to disable external uploads expect for special cases where people seek approval.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, I never really did that until I wanted to upload files with more than 500 MB, and when the limit was doubled, I arrived very late to change 2 of the external links for direct downloads. If the limit is doubled or tripled one day, external links are probably unnecessary. Although the conventional download of itch.io isn't even perfect.
