I solved it on my end, my ISP's default DNS server does not recognize itch.io's image hosting server address, "img.itch.zone". Switching to another DNS server fixed it.

The same issue rn (+ can't download any game without VPN at all). In my region (Russia) it seems like those two IP adresses were blocked by our silly government: 69.16.175.10 and 69.16.175.42  as well. Is there any way to fix it? (without paying a ton of money for good VPN ofc)

Just a followup: in the recent weeks the problem subsided, and though I don't check on the page daily, whenever I do, everything works fine. Should the itch team did something to resolve the problem, thank you for that. Maybe my internet provider got their sh*t together, I don't know. Anyways, just wanted to say this, as I am interested if anybody else experienced the same.
