I do think there needs to be some middle ground. Right now it's vastly simpler to replace all your slaves with higher level ones you capture. there's little benefit to keeping the starting ones, except the uniques that have the special traits.  Basically the only slaves i bother to level up and train are the uniques, and whatever decent Dragonkin I can get my hands on.

Wondering if the game needs something like "If you level a slave up 4 levels in your employ, you get to choose an additional trait", or something along those lines.  Something to reward keeping slaves long-term.

I think a lot of small changes could be made in different places, whether it's the easiness of amnesia potion, slower loyalty/obedience gains for high levels, rewards for gradual skill training or perhaps need skills for combat specialization, lower grades for bandit captures, fewer high level enemies or more difficult to capture them, mix non capturable enemies into enemy groups, and so on.

Just thought of one nice one. When levelling up, give Learning Points. Could be some sizable chunk and would basically offset the fact  if you capture a higher level+grade they'll just come with the higher stats.  Something like (100 + level * 5).  You're then free to assign them to skills or stats. Wouldn't really be game breaking, but once you're gaining those early levels easily, you can get a bunch of skill points to either get skills or boost stats.  Still be faster to capture higher level, but at least if you instead level up you're saved effort of training everything.

How about a mod that greatly increases rebelliousness based on level. Then makes it so amnesia potion has a chance to fail based on that (now high) rebellious streak.

Those powerful high level bandits and monsters you catch are gonna take extra work to tame. So training up a more malleable low level slave seems much more appealing.
