Tips/Tutorials for a Walking Sim?

I've been interested in trying out Unreal.  I haven't done a lot of 3D game development, but I have made an arcade FPS before.  Thing is...I don't like programming combat.  At all.  So I want to make a walking sim (you know, one of those first-person games that doesn't really bother with combat or puzzles and puts the focus solely on narrative with minimal interaction).  Maybe I'd like some dialogue boxes, kind of like in a Bethesda or Obsidian game.  And, of course, I wouldn't start it until I had the jam theme (admittedly, I already have a character and a setting), but I would like to make some practice projects to get the idea of how it works down.  If that makes sense?

I was just curious if anyone had any tips or links to tutorials for a walking sim (or FPS tutorials, I think I can glean some info from those).  How do I keep it engaging without typical gameplay elements (no combat, no puzzles, maybe some level interaction but nothing too much)?  How do I get dialogue boxes and/or speech checks going?  Again, I'm a beginner not just to Unreal but to 3D development in general, so bear with me.  xD

Hi there Sclaenops .
A walking sim would be perfect; we are "Adventurous", not combat oriented so that will work perfectly.
Our narrative workshop was one of our most popular last year and we will have one again this year.
We will have curated resource links and guidance from Senscape Indies and Unreal Evangelists that can help address your particular needs.
You will even have an opportunity for one on one help.
Not to worry about being a beginner; we have beginners in mind with our courses.
You will not be the only one.
Have you joined our server yet?
If so you can go to dev-chat and ask there.
We will have our Jam channels open this week.

Narrative workshop sounds like fun!  I also went ahead and joined the server, I don't usually use Discord so we'll see how this works out.  Thanks for the info!

Sure, feel free to ping me and I'll introduce you to the Indies; they are excited to meet and help there!
