He shook his head
"No-no it's fine-I-I don't mind-"
He swam the rest of the way to shore holding Ren up, even though his arms were shaking badly and tensing
He gently set Ren down on the shore. He sat next to him, wrapping an arm around his waist to hold him up and letting him slump into Kai. He wrapped his tail around him, letting Ren slump into his chest and holding him tightly, arms wrapped around him. He gently kissed his head, smiling comfortingly down at him even though inwardly he was TERRIFIED-
"Hey...it's ok-it's gonna be ok, don't worry....I won't let her hurt you. Just sleep ok? For me?"
Kai was just holding Ren gently but firmly to his chest, running his fingers through his hair comfortingly. His tail was wrapped around him as a blanket, giving him as much warmth as he possibly could. He was looking down at him so, so lovingly...he was tempted to sing to him-which btw Ren hadn't admitted this out loud to Kai but like-he fuckin' loved Kai's singing y'all already know he did-and it was actually really calming-
