It's just that I'm from Brazil and I'm teaching directions in English and doing it like this helps my students to record directions by the initial of the word.
I was going to suggest the same as Snazzyduck! It's more intuitive for gamers but I undersand and respect the fact you're using LRUD for educational purposes! Good job
