Hmm, that is a strange one >.< I know when I made the very first build of the game on the night of the jam deadline, I had that very same problem on my PC which made me panic like crazy, but I found it was caused by using a .ogv video file for the title screen. As soon as I swapped it out to a .mp4 version, the problem was fixed for me.  It also runs fine on my brother's PC and my old crappy laptop, but I don't have any other devices to test on.

I'm in the middle of trying to update the UI a little + eliminate unnecessary mouse clicks at the moment. I was hoping to have an updated version with those things in before going to sleep tonight, but it's looking more likely that I won't be able to get that completed and uploaded until tomorrow.

What I'll do is I'll let you know as soon as the updated version is available, then you can tell me if that works for you or not. If not, I could try making a separate build for you with a static image on the title screen instead of the video file, in case that's what's causing problems for some reason.

I'm sorry that it's done that for you though >.< Being a solo dev, I find bug fixing pretty hard when it's not an issue I can replicate on my end. But hopefully, I'll be able to fix this for you! I'll try my best to have the update out before I head to bed tomorrow.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure, but I may have made this an x86_64 windows build by accident. So that could potentially be causing problems too. This was my first time using Unity, so I didn't know much about how to export games at the time + was rushed due to the jam deadline. I'll make sure to make the updated build a regular x86 build.

Sounds good ^w^b I appreciate you getting back to me on this so quickly and if there's anything more I can do on my end to give you more info on what could be going wrong just let me know. I checked and my laptop is a 64bit Windows so that shouldn't be the problem.

Alrighty, good to know it's not 64bit causing issues then! I'm not sure what else could help, but removing the video file from the title screen will definitely be my first try at fixing it for you if the updated version still doesn't work for you. If neither of those things fix it, I'm probably gonna have to ask around to see if anyone else has any ideas because I'm not sure what the best thing to try next would be >.<

Just letting you know that the update is now out :3 If it still doesn't work for you, just let me know and I'll go ahead and make that version with the still image instead of the video on the title screen for you!

Unfortunately, though, it's coming up to 3am here now, so if the updated version doesn't work, I won't be able to get that other one made for you to try until I've gotten some sleep >.<

I downloaded the update but sadly only thing that changed was the cursor which I'm assuming was something that you changed with the update :/.

I tried messing with my graphics drivers and updating them in case it was something with that because I looked up common reasons why a game may give you a black screen but still play noise and stuff and most of it was saying that is probably the cause but still starts the same way, another post mentioned that the resolution I have could be the issue I've got 1366 x 768 and unfortunately I cant go any higher and I did see you said to fix text and stuff bleeding out of the textboxes to change resolution so maybe it's that?

In any case sorry for getting back to you late

Darn, that sucks! But, I've just uploaded a potential fix for you. I just named it after your username so you should see it in the available downloads :3 I did what I said I was gonna try - removing the video from the title screen completely and replacing it with a static image instead. I sure do hope that fixes it for you, or it's gonna take some real digging >.<

It shouldn't be your resolution that's the issue because the version I had up before the update was set to allow all resolutions. I only changed that in the update though cos as you said, it was messing with the UI if you changed it to anything aside from 16:9. But even with it being forced to 16:9, it still runs alright on my laptop which isn't 16:9. I can't remember what it is actually, but it's a weird one cos it's an old, rather odd little laptop, haha.

Fingers crossed the non-video title screen will work for you anyhow! Let me know how you get on :3 I'm heading to bed now though because I have an awful headache >.< If it still doesn't work for you, I'll see if I can find anything else to try tomorrow.

YESSSSS! \(^w^)/ It works finally! made sure to actually start the game and pick my poison before coming back to let you know ~w~b Thank you so much and I really apologize for all the trouble and hopefully your headache is gone and your riding the high of fixing my problem lol

Hooray! That's awesome to hear :3 I have no idea why an mp4 video playing on the title screen would cause such a problem, but at least it wasn't too hard to fix! I'll have to make sure to release all updates with a static title screen version as well. You don't need to apologise at all anyhow :3 There's always bound to be some kinda trouble with these sorts of things with everyone having such different systems. I'm just glad that I was able to get it to work for you :D

I'm still with headache, unfortunately, but that seems to largely be the curse of summer for me, haha. My body doesn't deal too well with the heat, and I'm sure lack of sleep during the recent game jam I finished probably hasn't helped the situation xD

I wish I knew why it was doing that too >3< but oh well Im glad it could be fixed fairly easily

I really enjoyed the game I left a rating already and I'm sorry you've still got that headache hopefully it goes away soon as well as the heat xD and please take some well deserved rest when you can ~w~

Glad you enjoyed it once it finally decided to play ball :3 Thank you very much for the rating! That certainly helps a lot since users can search by rating here. I always wondered how on earth folks manage to get hundreds of ratings on itch when the website doesn't do a great job of telling users it's something they can do >.< and I don't like to pester anyone to leave one, haha.

Cheers :3 And I'm not entirely sure I know how to rest anymore xD But I will attempt to not drive myself into the abyss at least!
