Hmm, I see. Well there are no item shops in the game, nor gold. The items you should find by exploring the maps are there to help you in emergency situations. Careful usage of the Meditation abilities in and out of combat and monitoring your TP and MP gauges is the surest way to beat the game. The enemies become progressively more powerful as Quain becomes more powerful and his abilities become more and more deadly.
There is also an escape feature if you find yourself in over your head.
