Interesting concept! I must say though, not super intuitive!
Well Actually the controls work well, I just got stuck from time to time. When reaching the beach after talking with the ice cream boy controls stopped working. Have to reload the page to try again, Perhaps an easy restart button or menu is always helpful! For the rest I really can see the effort put in!
