I didn’t see anywhere where I opted into giving my contact info / permission to contact me to the creators as opposed to itch.io

Creators have the option to send an e-mail to all buyers, but this is done through an Itch.io interface in such a way that user’s e-mails are not visible.

nor can I seem to find how to disable the feature

There is an option in the settings, under “CONTACT” -> “Email notifications” that says:

[ ] Never send any emails to me

I’m not sure if this includes e-mails sent by creators, but so far I haven’t received any, so I think it does.

Is there a way to default to NOT giving my contact info / permission to contact me to creators I buy from in the future and only selectively give permission to contact me to those I want?

Creators have the option to handle taxes themselves. I think because of that, a contact e-mail is required. Creators are not meant to send an e-mail by themselves, using their personal e-mail (instead of an Itch.io one). I believe this might actually be illegal in some countries, but I’m not sure.

Just to add another point of data: Like pretty much anybody else I have also supported that cause/bought the bundle in question. My account’s setting boil down to “never tell me anything for any reason ever” and I have also received no emails about this - sent by creators or itch.

Thanks for the info y'all. You are correct the emails come from an itch.io email address but are clearly from the creators. Seems maybe dropping all permissions for email will stop them. That said, I was hoping for a way to opt out of creator emails WITHOUT having to unsub every single email from Itch.io. I don't mind getting some updates from the platform. Sounds like there might not be a way to stop the creator emails without stopping all itch emails then?

Judging only by the settings I see this option:

[ ] New devlogs and updates from projects I follow

I suspect that a creator sending e-mails to all their users counts as “updates from projects”, so maybe this might work?

Unfortunately I haven’t experimented a lot with these, maybe someone else can give a more accurate response.
