I played the demo for this game way back when, and with the upcoming new release from the dev I was reminded that I still needed to backtrack and play this one!

Rainswept is a point and click adventure game, first of all. What I love about this dev's style is that the characters are very simple, but the backgrounds and location designs really are beautiful. There's a lot of layers there! And fittingly, there are a lot of layers in the story of this game too.

You take on the role of a detective sent to a small town to investigate the deaths of two residents, who moved to the place fairly recently. It looks like a fairly simple case to begin with, but as you interact with more of the locals a bigger picture begins to emerge.

Of course, our character isn't so open and shut either, with dark thoughts and unpleasant memories lurking beneath the surface, threatening to overwhelm us completely.

There isn't too much puzzle-wise in the game that will make you scratch your head, this is all about the interactions you have with the people around you. Can you solve the case and come out with your sanity intact? Or are you doomed to fail and lose more than you could ever imagine?

This truly is an amazing character study of a game, and there's some sprinklings of humour dashed in between all of the murky depression. Definitely worth checking out, along with the demo for the dev's upcoming game Forgotten Fields!
