That was a nice read, but you jumped from (I’m paraphrasing here) “Indie games are great and more people should play it.” to (again: paraphrasing) “If you offered torrents, people who did not know this site before would come here and use itch to buy indie games (or at least donate to their developers).” What I’m missing here is the middle bit.
As an aside (and I hope No Time To Play doesn’t mind me butting in on their part of the conversation - again): My experience is that the vast majority of people who got a free game through a source that wasn’t in some way, shape, or form connected to a platform are content with having gotten a free game. They won’t go out of their way to thank a developer - let alone offer to donate.
Most people are ignorant. Otherwise EA and friends would have had to change their business practices to avoid going bankrupt several years ago.
