Thanks for reporting this and testing in a fresh project! Please try setting Run Again Today to ON in the command, since it silently skips days already processed. Also, changing the day variable only triggers processing when Auto Process New Day is enabled.

I did find an edge case where automatic processing can miss the first day change (going from 0 to 1). If the forced command still leaves food untouched, could you share your project files so I can take a look? (bitqueststudio at gmail dot com).

So I did some more testing, and I think the problem wasn't actually the day not being processed, but I had a typo in the event tags for the indoor feed troughs. Figured this out when putting feed outdoor worked after trying to go through a few days. You are right about the day variable going from 0 to 1 not triggering the day being processed at all, though. That happens on the first day of the savefile still even after I fixed the indoor feed events. So, apart from that first day I could get it to work now. Thank you!

One other thing I noticed that seems to be a completely unrelated glitch is the following: If you have the animals outdoors and the day progresses (either through the plugin command manually or through the day variable automatically), the placed outdoor food and the grazing animals become invisible. You can interact with them still, but they remain invisible until you leave the map and re-enter it or open and close the menu, for example. Fascinatingly enough, this doesn't happen the first time you advance the day after loading an existing savefile or starting a new save, only from the second time you advance and onwards.

Edit: This also happens if the animals are indoors, it turns out. You just have to be on the same map as the animals at the moment the day advances, basically.
