Thanks for the advice! Im not super knowledgeable about Itch (as this is my first game ever) so any advice is appreciated

https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/web.html#web-html5 there is also a guide somewhere on itch for hosting it. Should be in the uploading games section where ya did this somewhere

(1 edit)

Sure! For a bit more detail on both of those, exporting a web build (and an android build if you'd like to make one for the person who asked above) is pretty easy with most RenPy games (minigames 'n' such can present some issues, but right now this seems like it'd all work fine on all platforms).

To do that, select your project in RenPy, and build it like how you built the Windows/Linux versions, but select "Web" instead of "Build Distributions" on the main menu. (RenPy will probably prompt you to get an update at that point if you've never done a web build before)

That'll produce a zip file, probably "ctavn-0.1.1-web.zip" if you don't change the version number. Just upload that to Itch like the other two zip files.

When including a web build, change the "kind of project" up at the top to "HTML," and tick the "this file will be played in the browser" checkbox under the web build in the uploads section. There are other options to potentially change under the "embed options" header (below the uploads section), depending on how you'd like your game to be displayed!

As for marking which platforms each file corresponds with, from the "edit game" page for this project under the "uploads" heading, select "executable" in the dropdown and tick the boxes next to the operating system each file goes with. (RenPy has the option to export a combined file that'll run on Windows, Mac, or Linux from the same zip too, called "Windows, Mac, and Linux for Markets." If you go for that one, tick all three boxes.)

I'm planning on helping with a talk on easy ways to get into making TF-themed games soon and I realize that this would be way easier to explain with screenshots. This might be the push I need to type up a nicely formatted guide to publishing on Itch, haha.
