Hey - just wanted to share that I keep coming back to this game, so nicely done! Nowadays I really value being able to have a quality gaming session in maybe ... 10-20 minutes.
Anyways, there is one idea I wanted to share. After getting the 400+ score which I'm not sure I'll beat anytime soon, I developed an alternative way of playing that feels like a "session".
Escalation mode (I just made the name up now): you get 5 lives, and each time you set a highscore for the "run", you get to keep them. Each time you don't beat the current run highscore, you're -1. Of course this is pretty simples stuff, but interestingly, it gives the game a "loop" of sorts and also adds a certain degree of accomplishment when you do manage to beat the previous score and get to stay alive a little longer.
As a side note, having a separate streak count for staying alive the longest would also be an interesting side challenge, as controlling scoring and the chain reactions is a challenge in and of itself.
One of my favorite aspects of itch games is that they give you freedom to experience them in ways commercial games frequently do not. This is one of them. All the best!
This is the first time that someone I don’t know personally has really gotten into one of my games, and it’s very gratifying :) Thank you for taking the time to not just play, but also let me know about it.
Your mode sounds great, but I think it’s fine for you to just track it yourself as you have been. Other people can make their own modes and goals!
