Aww, thanks! ^^That's a very good question! Honestly, 'resetting' comes very natural to me. I'm what I call an "idea person", so I can switch gears very easily, that's not the difficult part for me personally. The challenge for me, is to stick with a project until the very end. Especially when it's a larger, more ambitious one. And that's why alternating between projects can be very helpful for me as a creator. It's just how my motivation fluctuates. While I do enjoy working on longer projects (which I do intend to continue at some point), after so long of working on the same project I find myself starting to get burned out. I become easily distracted by all those new ideas my brain constantly spawns. It's as much a curse as it is a blessing, really. xD
But rather than stop altogether, it helps me to just switch gears and focus on something else for a while, then come back to that same project a year or so later and continue it after taking a nice long, break. This does mean those longer projects will take me years to complete, but in the long run it makes me feel more productive and keeps me from getting burned out and wanting to quit making vns altogether (which is a scary thought!).
I've been doing this long enough (about seven years) to where I have a good idea of pacing myself and how much I can handle. And I can definitely tell the warning signs of when I'm ready to move on to something else, essentially when I start losing interest in a particular project and have zero motivation to do anything to help it along. So if I'm not feeling very productive, working on a shorter project I can complete within the span of a month or so can be very helpful for me to jump start my motivation levels and get me wanting to create again.
That being said, I definitely recommend for newer devs to start with a smaller project before investing in something overly ambitious. As completing a shorter (1-10k words) project will help them gain the confidence and experience they need to tackle something a little more ambitious such as a 100k+ vn. Otherwise, I think more often than not, that larger project will never get finished if they don't have a good understanding of how to pace themselves and keep from getting burnt out. This is something that varies greatly from person-to-person. Some people have only one large project they devote all their time and energy to, others have multiple smaller ones, or a mix of both, like myself. It just takes experience to find out what sort of dev you'll be and how you manage to stay motivated.
Anyway hope that answers your question! Sorry I tend to over explain myself. lol. ^^;
idea person solidarity;; we have a lil discord for story ppl, pre~tty please drop by https://discord.com/invite/HQ785Wmmsr
Ah, no thank you. Not at this time. I don't mean to sound rude or ungrateful, because I'm sure you didn't mean any harm, but this isn't exactly the right place to advertise your discord server, seeing as it doesn't really have have anything to do with this project specifically. I know itch doesn't have DMs, but most of us creators have links to our social media on our pages where you can message us in private for requests such as this. I'm not mad or anything, but it would probably be better if you do this in the future. You're more likely to get a 'yes' if you're being a little more respectful. Also, I checked the link, so I'm sure it's legit and safe, but I have had issues with suspicious links being posted on my project pages before. Some people may have difficulty telling the difference between a sincere offer or a scammer.
