Think there might be some manner of bug related to "The Beast". I realized something was wrong when trying to go to my first Dual-Affinity Town, and the text randomly started talking about a "Beast" I had no clue about. At first, I had been disappointed and assumed it was AI hallucination, since I know the game uses it to a degree, but the dialogue had kept coherent up to that point.

However, talking with other players, I think I might have somehow missed or bugged through what the game assumed was a mandatory flag, as apparently I was supposed to find a Beast companion at some point before the Harmonized Town (and also apparently a ruined town? Never saw that either, just went straight from mono-elemental town to Harmonized), but for some reason just didn't.

Just thought I'd post a comment about it so the issue is known, and also to know if not having this Beast has basically softlocked my save.

Ok so this is a reward from pursuing all the possible timestreams when you're working on saving willowbrook. One of them ends up with you fleeing the village and the cave and having a spat with the tea master rather than defending the village or helping the villagers. The bonded beast is a reward/path companion that stems from that.

I'm not sure if this is a mandatory flag because you can do everything in the game without it, it just has some small modifiers that help with a plethora of things.

EDIT: I think you should be able to get it without having softlocked your save just go back to willowbrook's start point and ignore the beast tide or something. Maybe someone with better memory or doorwatchers can chime in with the exact steps to get the pet.

In the most recent fix it retroactively should fix the save, however there was a way to legitimately bypass the scene before. I have cleaned that up.

You shouldn't be softlocked, I don't think. Did you ever try running away from the Beast Tide instead of fighting it?
