Having bought a physical copy of this, I have some feedback. But it basically comes down to "it is terribly balanced and there's not much player agency."
In something like six tries I have yet to get past a second dungeon, including one where I died during the tutorial (Hall of the Elderkin) in the back of the book. Stats other than 3 Power, 1 Resilience, 3 Cunning are basically a fool's errand, and traps are both incredibly common and especially good at annihilating your character almost regardless of your "level."
Player agency is supposed to come from choosing when and how to use Relics, but generally you will die before acquiring (m)any, and other choices (fleeing from combat, searching or not searching for treasure) are almost never worth taking.
In smaller nitpicks: despite getting a whole descriptive writeup, Heuros basically don't exist in the actual game, with only one entry on an enemy table. Also, since you can only get legendary relics from winning a dungeon, the choice of whether to take 2 damage to pick up a Cosmic Blessing is a fake choice, because you either get no reward with 2 or fewer HP, or there's no downside because you regain all your HP immediately thereafter.
hey, I appreciate the feedback and the honest attempts at the game!
The way the game loop was built had a lot of inspiration on the Rogue videogame, so the arcadey feel comes from that.
I wouldn't put Resilience as a dump stat, as it is used for your Travel Test and it could increase your Health and even help lower the Test Target number, which makes a huge difference to avoid traps!
When I wanted an easier run I have experimented starting the game with a Relic Test from the beginning, I highly recommend that if the issue you're facing is the lack of available options at the first few levels.
I'd have to crunch the numbers on it, but I felt it was safer to always sacrifice a relic to avoid having to make a travel test, rather than risk the X/6 followed by 1/3 chance of a test target number increase. The chance of X/6 followed by 1/6 chance of test target number decrease didn't seem high enough to reward investment, even with the Traveler talent.
Anyway, I'll probably give it some more tries later, though probably with "loaded dice" to pick my HP, missions, and one specific dungeon from now on, haha.
