I have not played the original game, so I went to see some screenshots, and I’d say you got the look right!
The gameplay is interesting, though I’ll admit I did not understand the more advanced-seeming rules as explained in the game’s description.
Still, the vibe is very nice, both in terms of music and graphics.

To be *so* real with you — I knew from the start that this would definitely be a made-for-me project. The worst part about demaking Triple Triad is just... then having to explain how to play Triple Triad! I've had this game living rent-free in my head for decades, I *get* the rules, but I totally understand how other folks might not. I can say "plus triggers if any two pairs of touching numbers add to the same value" or "same triggers if any two pairs of touching numbers match" all day long, but it's almost like there's a switch that needs flipped in the brain and until that switch of understanding is flipped it just sounds like I'm describing moon logic!
At least with the Freeplay, you can turn the more complex rules off entirely.
