Oh, strange - I use VLC for my setup
File > Options:
- sound player: point to vlc.exe
- sound editor: point to audacity.exe
Can you please let me know what happens when you try to play a sound in the tool?
In options I'm pointing to VLC using this path:
C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
Here's the list of errors I'm getting inside VLC:

I should also mention that although it appears that the path is being split and passed to VLC incrementally, the correct path for that specific sound (which WavTool correctly reveals when selecting Open Folder) is this :
D:\SFX Library\Helton Yan's Old-School Shonen SFX
