Was SO hyped for this game, I had put reminders in my phone about it. Started up the game, and the hype died in less than 2 minutes. I game-overed 3 times on that fricken jump in the intro stage Retro Redux mentioned.
Since this was Mega Man X1 homage, I assumed dashing wasn't available at the start. Especially after I pressed the A button (the normal dash button on EVERY OTHER Mega Man X game) and tried double-tapping the control pad, no dash. And in the original MMX intro stage, there's a nasty jump as well.
So there I sit, dying repeatedly.
I happened to watch a youtube video of some gameplay and they were dashing! So I checked the controls, and dashing is assigned to a SHOULDER BUTTON! Come on, that's just cruel.
I then get thru the intro level and play thru the stages. I gave the creators props for visuals and creativity, but that's about it. It's painfully obvious the designers don't know good game design. Especially 'Mega Man' design, where stages are set up to teach the player how the stage works BEFORE throwing them into hazards. Very little thought into enemy placement other than causing difficulty for the player. IE: here's a narrow space where the player needs to fall down to proceed, so let's put an enemy right where the player has to land with no way to dodge/defeat before hitting the player.
Nearly every stage is filled with blind leaps of faith. The Skyblade Squirrel stage is the worst, its pracitally all dropping down the screen and not knowing if you will land on solid ground or be trolled with a pit.
There's also someone's weird fetish with putting spikes right next to walls you are supposed to drop down.
I slogged thru all the Maverick stages, but not once did I have fun. Perhaps the Sigma stages will be different but I seriously doubt it.
There's a good game here, just not in its current form. It's at best a very pretty, rage-baiting Mega Man X game, designed to troll players.
