This is a great conversion, looks much better than the version it's based on.

But I have a problem with level 21 and 24 mayhem - I don't think they can be completed.

These two levels both have slight differences from the NES version:

in level 21, you are not given the same numbers of each lemming type, making the level uncompletable

in level 24, the gap between where you come out of the structure you bash through and the surface below is higher than the NES, killing the lemmings from the fall which does not happen on the NES

also level 25 is much tougher than it should be due to an extra layer of netting on the right hand side above the exit -  only managed to complete that after much trial and error, even after watching a playthrough of the NES level.

If someone is able to complete mayhem 21 and 24 I would like to see a video, as I don't think they can be done on the Pico 8 conversion.

First of all, thanks for playing and for giving me this feedback! I’m currently away from home, so I can’t properly check everything right now. All levels were tested and cleared before release, but there may still be some edge cases where things worked out a little too pixel-perfect.

I did replay Mayhem 24 on my handheld and managed to complete it. It’s definitely very tight though, so it may indeed need some tuning. I’ll post a short description of how I did it.

I’ll definitely double-check the other levels as well when I’m back and get back to you. Thanks again for the feedback!

Mayhem 24:

  • Lem #2: bash at the top of the stairs.
  • Lem #1: start mining left at the bottom of the stairs (very early, so that new lemmings don’t fall into the gap and die).
  • Once the gap is deep enough for the lemmings to turn around, stop the miner by making him a builder.
  • As soon as Lem #2 (the basher) is done, quickly start building a ramp.
  • Don’t finish the ramp: use bashing to stop the builder early, so the lemmings don’t fall off the ramp and splat.

I thought that was the solution you had in mind and had actually tried that many times before my previous post, but the problem I always had was another lemming would be right there just as the basher would finish so I would always end up losing one anyway.

Luck plays a HUGE part in completing that level, and as luck would have it, I just tried again and got lucky with not having a lemming right at the end as the basher finished, allowing me to finish the level in exactly that manner.

Now I've only got mayhem  21 left. If only I had three more bridges I could do it...

i will double check asap. Will make sure to get back to you

As promised, I wanted to get back to you about Mayhem 21.

I tested it, and the solution is a bit custom compared to the NES version, but it’s definitely doable. It’s actually not even that difficult once you know how. :)

Mayhem 21:

  • Lem #1: build stairs over the water.
  • Lem #2: build stairs against the rocks so he turns around.
  • When the lemming walking back reaches the water, make him build stairs to the left.
  • Make the first lemming that drops down on the left a builder.
  • Make the lemming following behind him a digger, so he destroys the stairs and traps all the remaining lemmings between the two rocks.
  • Take the lemming that built the stairs on the left side of the rock and make him build two more sets of stairs towards the goal.
  • Once the stairs are complete, make one of the trapped lemmings a basher to open the way for everyone.

PS: Super cool to hear that this is the last level you still have left! If you finish this one, you’ll be the first person I know of who has completed all 100 levels. :)

Make sure to show me the celebration screen when you do. I’ll definitely make sure to spread the word! :)
